Cutting the cable

My wife was a manager with AT&T for 40 years before she retired last year . We were getting cable for free , just paid taxes . When she retired and looked at how much it would be even with a discount we said bye-bye to cable .We discovered Samsung has free streaming with over 200 channels , Vizio has it also . We bought Paramount+ , if you pay by the year it's less than $100 . Add in Amazon+ , we get it with Amazon Plus and we get all we need .

We cut cable a year and a half ago. We bought Roku sticks and subscribe to Fubo, went with Fubo because they're the only streaming service that I could find that carries NESN. Gotta have my fix of the Bruins and Red Sox.

for about $13-14 a month you can eliminate commercials on youtube (not youtube tv). I'm like most people and finally cut the cable but I cant stand commercials. the cool thing is you can try it for free for a month I think. I watch mostly youtube so it was well worth it.

cheers

I refuse to pay that kind of money just to get rid of commercials. If it was a couple dollars a month, say 24.99 a year, I would do that. Really chaps my hide that since Google took over Youtube the commercials have gotten ridiculous.

Dumped Comcast a couple of years ago.

Went with Verizon 5G Home. We stream everything. We have Amazon and Netflix. Don't miss live TV. Nothing good on there anyway.
This sounds like what I am doing. Currently have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube Premium (means no ads; does not mean YouTubeTV.)

We've been using Ziply optical internet service since we moved in several years ago, but every time I turn around they are jacking the price. Started at $50. Then jumped to $80, and when I called and complained they dropped it back to $60, but then they just jacked it back to $80.

It's annoying.

So I had an offer for 5G home internet from T-Mobile, our cell phone service provider, at $50 a month, and they claim they will not raise prices anytime soon. (They said they recently raised prices to $50 and that was the first increase in five years...) Plus they are promising a $200 Visa gift card in five weeks, if I don't take advantage of their cancel in 15 days at no charge option.

I figure the $200 will likely cover what Ziply will try to charge me for a cancellation fee when I cancel them..

Fingers crossed.

Also get regular over the air TV and a zillion channels we don't watch from somewhere or another... Samsung? FireTV? Both? Neither? (Beats me.)

I have DISH network and I like it, but, we can't get NBC or Penguin & Pirate games. Luckily I live high and get OTA broadcasts, channels I never knew existed. Verizon is our internet and phones provider. All 3 girls' phones, wife & my cellphone and house phones are high, but we love and spoil the kids! Happy with all services and we can record any DISH broadcast endlessly it seems.

I have DirecTV, a bit expensive if you also have extra channels but I'm at home handicapped so I watch a lot of TV. I pay extra for the Baseball extra channels during the season because baseball is the only ball sport I enjoy. Maybe the best thing about DirecTV is the recording feature. Recording space on the disc is very generous and will hold many hours of recordings so you can always have something on TV you want to watch.

I do the same thing. I'm a displaced fan of the Cleveland ___________ ( I refuse to call them by their current name). Turner Classic Movies was having 31 days of Oscars so I'm getting a chance to record and watch all the movies from the 50s and 60s I never got to see but were part of the culture. I just watched "The Caine Mutiny" for the first time ever.
