I have a Model 57 that has been fired very very very little and its finish is in Nickel. There is some cylinder burn and fouling on the cylinder and I have seen people use scotch brite green and birchwood casey polishing rags however they contain Ammonia.

What can I do to spruce up and remove the fouling and cylinder burn on my nickel plated Model 57

If you are going to shoot it again, just leave them. If this revolver is going to be a safe queen, then you can remove them with a mild abrasive. Flitz or Semi-Chrome paste work well, just go easy with the polishing, then finish with wax.

I use a steel brush on my grinder to clean up nickel guns. :). No, I agree to don't worry about it unless I was cleaning it up to never be shot again. Then I'd try Flitz or another mold abrasive. I don't even worry about scrubbing stainless cylinders spotless.

Back in the day 1970s we carried Nickel Model 10s. We had platoon inspection once a month which included firearms. Our old school first Sargent said to use an ink eraser to remove any remaining black on the front of the cylinder.

Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover ...

works like a black magic charm .
This stuff is what we use on car bumpers when they were chromed steel ...
cleans , shines and removes burn marks , carbon deposits and rust !
Just follow the directions ... I've used it for years on firearms .

Clean these areas by hand ... power tools may be too much and take off finishes you want to keep !
