Cylinder diameter

Does anyone know the different cylinder diameters between a J frame, a Colt D frame, and a K frame? I have been carrying a Bodyguard IWB and have a chance to buy either a Detective Special or a Model 10 snubby. I am afraid the six-shooters might be a bit portly for IWB carry. Then again maybe I'm the portly one. Thanks

The Colt "D" frame has essentially the same cylinder diameter as the S&W "K" frame.
They're so close, speed loaders will usually interchange.

Although the Model 10 snubby and the Colt "D" are about the same frame size and have the same cylinder size, the Colt will feel smaller.

The S&W "J" frame is considerably smaller, being a small frame 5 shot cylinder.

Due to the butt shape and the short barrel, the Colt is a smaller package than the usual S&W "K" models.
The post-1965 Colt "D" frames also have a "stubby" grip frame which can take much smaller boot-type grips than the S&W full sized round butt.

Sir, thanks for your kind rep;y. I was under the impression that the D frame was a bit thinner than the K frame. I have a problem adjusting to the Colt's trigger return feel so I will think I will remain with S&W for the time being. Thanks again!

Thanks sir. I have a chance to buy a Cobra but the trigger return feels so weak that I find myself wondering if it will reset. While I have polished and tweaked a tiny bit on S&W's I know just enough about Colt's to realize I should leave them alone!

Nice to have dimensions, skeezix. I recently measured my S&W semi-autos and has been wondering how their width compares to a J-frame revolver. As I recall, the 6906 was also about 1.3" at widest point, and a 3953 is about 1.1" wide at grips.
