Hello,
I just purchased a brand new S&W 57-6 41mag. I took it to the range and fired several rounds of Remington factory ammo 210gr soft point. I also ran some of my reloads through it 215gr lead powder coated SWC over 15 grains of Accurate #9.
When I got home I noticed marks on the cylinder that I had not seen before. I thought it was just powder but it will not come off. The marks are like burn marks in the finish.
Is this normal? Can they be removed?
Below are several pics of the cylinder and the inside of the top strap.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Yep, just powder, lead, and bullet lube residue, glad you got it cleaned off. By the way, you failed to mention how that new Model 57-6 shoots.

I have a model 19 classic with the same marks, but with small divots into the barrel finish….. I sent it back to the mothership for a look see.
