I just bought a police trade in model 60 and I have a question. The cylinder locks up tight on 4 of the 5 cylinders. There is one cylinder that if you apply pressure the cylinder with turn and not lock up properly. I have taken it apart and the cylinder catch seems to be working. It just seems like the catch is slipping out of the notch on the cylinder.
The spring is intact under the cylinder stop and it works fine on single action, it only slips when the hammer is down. Is this a spring issue or something more severe.

Is this very common on a model 60. Can I fix it myself or do I need to take it to a gunsmith?

Thanks

Look at the cylinder stop cuts carefully, and you will probably see a burred edge that prevents the cylinder stop from engaging. That burred edge is characteristic of a heavily used revolver.

You can correct it by carefully filing the burr down so it looks the stop cuts that are working correctly.

+1.
If dry fired alot that can happen too.
Most common with the 44 mags,

Thanks for the help. I will take a look at the cylinder cuts and the cylinder stop to see if I can diagnose the problem.

Took the revolver apart and the cylinder stop had a small burr on each side. Took a small stone and gently removed the burrs. Reassembled and works perfectly.

Thanks for the advice
