Ok, I keep seeing surplus CZ-82's around for "ok" pricing ($225 to 250). Any body have one or know much about them? I've taken a look at the CZ-83 and like them. Thanks folks.

I have a CZ82 and like it. Put a few hundred rounds through it and no problems.

I have an 83 and also like it. the only major difference is IIRC the 82 has polygonal rifling and a rounded trigger guard. Both models have a habit of biting the trigger finger between the frame and the mag release. Fairly stout recoil for a minor caliber. I wish they made a .22lr version.

I carry a cz82 daily. I love it. Very accurate and reliable, carrys nicely, never a malfunction, and ambidexterous. These pistols are a little snappy on recoil because of the design. Two mags of 12 each and one up the spout handily empties a box of hornady self defence loads.

I bought a CZ82 when they first hit the C&R list a few years ago. I like it so much I reload for it using Bullseye powder and cast bullets. Psst, don’t tell the Glock shooters but CZ’s seem to behave just fine with cast bullets. For a while one of my nephews carried the CZ when he took a part time job as an armed security guard while finishing up his Masters. He had no trouble qualifying with it even though he is not a shooter. After my wife obtained her CCW she adopted the CZ82 as her carry gun, at least until she finds something she likes better.

Got a 82, love it. Use it as my truck gun. Came with two 12 rnd, mags. Got an original holster for it from CDNN for about 10 bucks.

I'm thinking of snapping one up while they are out and resonable priced still. But all the ones I see have that epoxy or enamel coating on them that is all chipped up and look much worse than the one shown above that seems to have a blued steel slide and frame.

I absolutely love mine (both) the Surplus 82 (9x18) is a great bargain. It is a tack driver. Wideners is a great place to buy from.

They are a blow back (fixed barrel).
Most 83 parts fit the 82 such as recoil spring.

As to working on them, they are not complicated and actually very easy, I do not know where that came from??

Is a CZ 82/83 dual caliber conversion possible?

Good evening:

Just curious - is it possible to make a CZ 82/83 dual caliber conversion? I've read where there was a very high degree of parts interchangeability between the CZ 82 and 83, and was wondering if you could swap the barrels and magazines to have a pistol that could fire 9mm Makarov as well as .380ACP? What if you placed a Model 83 upper receiver on a Model 82 lower receiver group? Would either of these options work?

Thanks,

Dave

I bought one in 2010 using my C&R License. I love the way it fits my hand and it is more accurate than I am.

There are 55 parts, not including the magazine, and disassembly is a little scary because of the many parts, including fifteen different pins.

CZ-82 Disassembly and Assembly

Still from what my milsurp buddies tell me quite a fine pistol and good bargain.

Yep, that's why the guy made the nice tutorial. If a gunsmith can not do this then see another one.

Of course he does not show how to put it back together. They usually say, reverse order.:)

Here is a Sig and a Walther P22. I am not a Gunsmith nor have I played one on TV.:D

I've had an 82 for a number of years and really like it. It is an excellent bang for the buck.

Right now, I've got my eyes out for an 83.

Why?

Because I don't have one. :D

P.S.

Here's a "protection" photo from a year or so ago:

I really like mine and it has become one of my favorite carry pistols. Very reliable and accurate , fun to shoot. The 9mm Mak is slightly more potent than most .380. There's some good modern defensive loads available in 9mm Mak. Being a surplus gun with an ugly , but durable finish , ya won't worry too much if it gets a few more dings. I added a Hi-Viz front sight to mine.

Holsters for a Beretta 84 fit perfectly.

At one time , import and surplus 9mm Makarov ammo was dirt cheap compared to .380. Not so much anymore.

The gun's barrel is fixed to the frame , so ya just can't swap them at will. The bullet and case head dia of the 9mm Makarov is bigger than the .380. Not by much , but could cause reliability issues.

One more thing , the commercial CZ-83 has a firing pin block in the slide that the CZ-82 does not.

These little guns are an amazing bargain. Got lucky with mine as the finish is fine. As said, very accurate.
Its a traditional double action with a twist in that it can be carried cocked and locked like a 1911 or carried hammer down for a DA first shot.
All steel construction. Not likely to wear this one out in a couple lifetimes. I did add a heavier recoil spring from Wolff that calmed things down a bit. As its a straight blowback, the casings ejected with significant velocity.
Mine runs on everything from the cheap Brown Bear to premium SD stuff:

25 shots rapid fire @ 10 yds.

I purchased my first CZ82 in 9mm mak in very good condition from AIM Surplus for $189. It came with a holster and two twelve rd mags. It shoots like a dream and i love the first shot double action in a pistol.

A few years ago i was browsing for a 9mm luger pistol and i found a like new, unshot in excellent condition used CZ85DB for $300. After shooting it i purchased a CZ83 in 380acp and in 9mm mak. These were only $220 & $230 used. Then the czech surplus military cz82's came along. I also purchased an excellent condition CZ82 for $199 too.

I did install a new wolf recoil spring two sizes stronger for the russian wolf amo.

The CZ75 in 9mm luger is the choice of the russian special ops.

So far all my CZ pistols have been flawless in operation and i think there the hottest buy on the planet for a surplus pistol, the CZ82 in 9mm mak. Bill

BTW; My first VG CZ82 pistol is my new carry gun and its my backup when i pack a magnum revolver. Also some guy sare purchasing the lesser condition CZ82's and stripping the epoxy paint and refinishing them.
