DA sear normal?

Whole looking at the stock hammer from my 64 I noticed that the front of the DA sear has an angle cut into it. I'm not sure if this is normal because I can't remember seeing it on my other s&w's. although I never actually looked really close and maybe never noticed it on the others? Look weird to anyone?

Wont work properly without the angle - perfectly normal. Now, put it back where you got it and shoot the thing!

I got it out of a little baggie . I actually swapped it with a sa/da hammer and even fitted the NEW one without noticing that angle. Are my eyes getting that bad? Pulled the side plate to check the new one and of course that angle is on it too. I only had to remove a little from the bottom when I fit it so I didn't never noticed. I see where it'll hit the trigger without it so it all makes sense. I never claimed to be a gunsmith but strive not to be a bubba! I won't do anything to the guns original parts I have just to make sure I can always just put the stock pieces back in if I ever had to and it would work. Thanks or the help.

The toe of that hammer looks pretty smooth. Is it a DAO?

Yes, this is a hammer from a NY-1 64. I wanted to give it sa/da so I bought another hammer and figured if I wrecked the new sear it wouldn't be the end of the world so I decided to try and fit it. Everything worked out after a little removal of material on the new one. Don't worry, I'm not making a habit of this either. I'll pull apart my smiths for cleaning and want to be able to make simple repairs, but not making a regular habit of "modifying" revolvers.
