I wound up with fifteen S&Ws that came from my father's collection. A few years ago I had lost interest in my guns and needed some money for a house remodel, so sold several. Regretted it. Sold eight of the guns and was down to seven. Decided to rebuild the collection as best I could. Two of the guns I was able to buy back and found replacements for three more. Hence the title Dad's Dozen.
My area of interest is Hand Ejectors 1896-1961. Have eleven of those plus a semi-auto. Think what I have represents that era pretty well. The twelve guns:
Model 1902, 5-inch nickel, shipped August 15, 1902 to Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Sold to a SWCA member and was able to buy it back. Like the Model 1902 because it is the first gun with the front lock.
Model 1905 Target, 6-inch blue, shipped May 14, 1913 to Emil Linck, Hamburg, Germany. Has German proof marks. Like the Model 1905 because it's the first 5-screw, a square butt and has the lockwork design used for the next 100 years.
.44 Hand Ejector 1st Model, 6 1/2-inch nickel, shipped April 14, 1916 to the Cowdrey Company, New York City. Replaced. Like it because it is the first N Frame and the first 44.
.455 Mark II Hand Ejector, 2nd Model, shipped December 29, 1917 to Shapleigh Hardware Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Replaced. Like having a 45 caliber.
.44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model, 5-inch blue, shipped June 3, 1926 to Frank Gamblin, Deputy Sheriff Potter County, Texas. Like the LEO history.
.357 Magnum REG 657, 5-inch blue, McGivern Gold Bead, shipped December 24, 1935 to Potchernick's, San Antonio, Texas. Once owned by James C. (Doc) White. Doc was a Texas Ranger and an FBI Special Agent. Like Registered Magnums and the LEO history.
K-22 Outdoorsman, 6-inch blue, shipped April 6, 1937 to Cullum & Boren, Dallas, Texas. First 22 caliber I like. Think the others were too small.
Model 1955, .22/32 Airweight Kit Gun, 3 1/2-inch blue, shipped July 8, 1955 to Frankfurth Hardware Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Like the 1955 ship date.
9mm Automatic Pistol #1313, 4-inch blue, shipped November 22, 1955 to Charles Greenblatt, New York City. Like the serial number, dad's favorite number was 13.
.357 Combat Magnum, 4-inch blue, shipped August 16, 1956 to Huey & Philp Company, Dallas, Texas. Sold at a gun show in Texas and bought it a few years later from a SWCA member in Alabama. Like that it is early production.
.44 Magnum, 5-screw, 4-inch blue, shipped December 14, 1956 to Edward K. Tryon, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Replaced. Like that it is a 5-screw and shipped in 1956.
Model 53 .22 Centerfire Magnum, 4-screw, 6-inch blue, shipped May 21, 1961 to Nash Hardware Company, Fort Worth, Texas. Like that it is 4-screw and a first year gun.
