Last year they took TCM off of me wanting me to pay more for it.
Last night I tuned to Starz Western channel and guess what? Subscription Required popped up. The only other channel I watch regularly is Fox News. What a load of ****!
I can’t wait till our contract is up!

MoviePlex channel is now on-demand only, forcing people to rent their HD boxes if they want what has been a free movie channel with the lower end packages.

All these channels charge tv providers to air them and they charge more and more every year. Even local tv stations charge cable and satellite providers for the privilege of broadcasting their station. For the few channels I actually watch, streaming is making more and more sense.

I have been a "Prime" member of Amazon for a long time, and for the past year have been using an Apple TV box to stream Prime movies at no cost. (I know, I pay $119 per year to amazon, but I have already recaptured that by free shipping). I don't know who many movies are out there on Prime, but it is thousands and I haven't gotten much beyond the 3rd row yet after a year as they keep getting new movies added. I don't pay monthly use fees for anything else.

I'm moving to a new house in a few weeks. Need more space.

Currently, at my condo where I am now, we have an air TV antenna for live local news and use Amazon Prime, Netflix and YouTube Premium (not YouTubeTV) with a wireless router for entertainment. All to the same, single, smart TV.

At the new house I plan three, possibly four TVs (guests, etc.), primarily for entertainment, but want live local news in the kitchen for breakfast. I want to ditch the antenna so I don't need the antenna wire, but still get local news. (I watch national news at my convenience using YouTube.)

What I've learned is that there are apps that apparently allow you, for free, to stream local news, obviating the need for an antenna/wire: 8 Apps Which Let You Stream Local News for Free | MakeUseOf

Have not figured out yet whether I will need to "cast" from an iPhone to the kitchen TV using Chromecast or similar, or whether I can install the local news app directly into the smart TV in the kitchen.

Anybody using these apps with a TV?

Are you sure it's a contract and not an agreement?

And Concast isn't alone. I don't think any of the service providers are good. They use dishonest and misleading tactics to lure people in to buying their product and then raise the rates when the "introductory" period has ended. Of course, it takes a microscope to read all the small print that is often vague and unclear.

Beats me. ll I know is we have committed to 2 years I believe, of which there’s maybe 6-9 mos. left.
When I called the last time to complain I was told the fine print stated they have the right to add or delete programming.

And Netflix has just announced it is raising prices by $1/month (basic, or more depending on what services you want).

You probably agreed to a package/bundle w/a set price for two years and they won't let you change until the time runs out.

I'd call them up and tell them you'd like to end the agreement and see what they say. I'll be willing to bet they'll want to make a "better" agreement for 6 months or another two years - then the prices will go up!

BTDT.

If it weren't for the wife watching TV I would take ours down and put them in a yard sale. Mostly just drivel.

On top of all the commercial acrobatics with subscriptions and channels, my local Comcast/Xfinity internet service is HORRIBLE. I don't know if it's congestion or aging, failure prone equipment in the infrastructure, but my service reliability is a joke. I have taken to speed testing my service, just to see if it is working at all. I am astonished at the high speeds available on friends' Wifi networks. Mine frequently is like the old dial-up modem days, so slow I get dropped by websites I'm trying to log on to.

A while back I lost my RFD TV.
Blue Grass, Country Music, Tractor Shows, Horse Shows.
You can get RFD if you pay.
Have you noticed that everybody wants a fee?
After you are already paying a fee?

That sucks, no more Molly B's polka party for you....

Not to mention the Best Show on Television, Trains and Locomotives.

I've had no problem with DISH Network for about 25 years now. I went off once for Verizon Fios, lasted for the contract, about a year, it cost more and got less channels. Satellite only goes out with super bad heavy weather maybe 3-4 times a year, but the service is better than any cable I've ever had. We get all of the above mentioned channels as standard. I don't pay for HBO or whatever, but my daughter pays for the Netflix.
