Dan Wesson Pointman 9

I bought one 20 years ago. They are wonderful pistols that made me a fan of Dan Wesson 1911s. I have heard that the older ones are better thought of than the new ones but have no facts to back this up. Like Colt, Dan Wesson is owned by CZ. I own quite a few Dan Wesson 1911s and have never/ever had a failure to feed, a broken part, or any problems with one. They also do not use MIM parts and are all real steel. I think you will not regret your purchase.

I have an older one. It's utterly reliable and accurate. I replaced the full length guide rod with a GI version and plug........per my preference.

I read where some had galling issues during break-in but I just added oil during the first 500 rounds, swabbed the bore every now and again and didn't experience it. Now when racking the slide, it's as smooth as glass.

As Taman11 said, Dan Wessons don't have MIM parts.

I cannot think of any cons to owning one other than you'll spend more money on ammo because it's so nice to shoot. It has very little recoil.

I'm pretty sure that you'll be glad that you bought one.

I don’t have the Pointman but I do have a Vigil 5” in 9mm a 5”valor in 45 and a specialist commander in 45. The 9 Vigil is so much fun at the range. And cheaper to shoot. No problems with any of them, you won’t be disappointed. I’m looking for the DW blued A2 as we speak.

Bought one 15+ years ago. Qualified Concealed Carry, scored 100.

Also Guardians in 9mm and 45acp

I had a DW 10mm, and while it was the most accurate pistol l ever owned , it was useless because of malfunctions. I sent it back twice and it still ftf etc. Finally gave it to a renowned 1911 Smith and when I got it back, it was better, but still unreliable. When I called DW, they said there was nothing they could do for me. Junk. Sold. Bought a Ruger 1911 10mm, and it was golden.

After saying I'd never own a 9mm or SS 1911 I ended up trading into a used PM-9. It came with a couple of cheapo mags and wouldn't get through a mag without at least one FTF. Got a Nighthawk mag and it has been flawless with FMJ and hollow points. I still prefer .45 ACP in a 1911 but enjoy shooting this one more than I thought I would.

I do believe that DW uses Metalform mags, and they are good IMO. My spare mags are Wilson or Ed Brown. I buy them when on sale

I've been thinking about a 9mm DW Guardian. From what I read, DW has a really good reputation.
I have a .45 ACP Guardian that is often my carry choice. It has been completely reliable with DW mags and shoots well. The light weight frame makes carry more comfortable as the day goes on. A lot of folks feel Dan Wesson is the top amongst production 1911s and I don't disagree. They aren't on the same level as the semi customs such as Wilson, Nighthawk, Guncrafter, etc. but are well made and hard to beat for the price.

Speaking of price, Dan Wesson's just went up 20%!!. I walked into a large RI gunstore the other day, and they had a new Pointman 9 that they had discounted prior to the price increase to 1569.00. The MSRP at the time was 1769.00. They are now 2099.00.. Well, I went back and bought it today ,gun, tax, and shipping to GA in 2 months for 1573.00 OTD. I am very happy!! I have a pointman 45, and a PM-C ( pointman carry commander size ). The PM-C operates like it is on ball bearings. I think I have all I need or want now, in semi center fire

I saw that yesterday under the “products” page. They seem to be about $300 more than I payed a few years ago.

Anybody have one of these? Any pros and or cons?

I located one at a discounted old price
I bought a brand-new Dan Wesson PM9 a few years ago. It quickly became my favorite 9mm 1911, comparable to my Wilson and Les Baer 1911s in function, fit, finish, and overall quality. It is wonderfully accurate, functions flawlessly, and came with a great trigger pull from the factory. I highly recommend the PM9.
