i finally broke down and bought a dan wesson tonight. i've wanted one for years and now i have a stainless 44 on the way. i don't mean to be blasphemous. s&w will always be top on my list, but there's always room for a runner up and i'm anxious to see how it stacks up. they are not common in my neck of the woods. in fact, i've never even seen one in person. any love?

I have an M-12 Pistol Pac and an M-15 Pistol Pac. The Dan Wesson revolvers are much underappreciated IMHO.

I have a Model 15 that came with a 6" VR barrel and I have purchased a snub and an 8" Heavy barrel. I bought the first DW .44 Mag I ever saw. It's a 6" VH, and I have both a ported and unported barrel. I don't use the ported one, because powder fouling can make it difficult to disassemble, and the gun is so big it doesn't need it anyway. I really like them, but I like my S&Ws better.

I just picked up a DW .44 V-6 last week and got to shoot it on Monday. I am nothing but impressed. It is extremely accurate, the recoil is very manageable and the trigger in SA or DA is one of the smoothest I've ever encountered. The best part is I got it for $369!

In my area prices on DW revolvers have been rising significantly in the past few years. I guess word about their durability and accuracy is getting out.

We'd be wise to delete this thread to stop the trend, at least until I pick up a stainless .44 Magnum. LOL!

don't think that i didn't already think of that. i didn't want any suprise competition either. after thi post, mums the word...

a couple years back my brother brought home a dan wesson 357 maximum revolver. (back when factory ammo was still available),,, he had a gunsmith mount a scope on it and we shot 8inch round plates at 100 yards with it. that gun was amazing!that gun had the best trigger we had ever had,,plus the 357 max was the flattest shooting round. he sold the gun when he got married,,,but i would buy a DW in a heartbeat again,,,actually im waiting for valor prices to drop ,then im gonna jump on the DW wagon again!...

I'm kinda hooked on them. And yes, the word is out!! I only have one large frame D.W....a Super Mag...mine was trilled & tapped prior to my ownership. I will be mounting a Leupold 2x pistol scope on it before deer season!

I also have a couple .357s and recently came a cross and purchased a VERY cool .22 Silhouette gun with a 10" barrel that goes on forever!

D.W.s are no longer under-rated!

You're going to enjoy your Dan Wesson 744 (7 denotes Stainless Steel in the DW model scheme, 44 is obvious). I have a 744 VH6 that is an excellent gun, very accurate, and with a very smooth action. My late brother had a .445 Super Mag with both 6" and 8" VH barrels, which was also extremely accurate - sadly, it was stolen about 10-12 years ago. They are big, heavy guns (mine makes my 8 3/8" Model 27 feel like a J frame in comparison), and they are probably among the strongest, if not the strongest, double action .44 Mag revolvers. Congratulations on your purchase!

Had a friend that had one and thought it was a good enough gun, but nothing I would write home over. Personally I thought the grip was a beast of a thing to hold onto, and I'm 6'4 and have monkey fingers lol! If the price is right, I would buy one in a heart beat. But in my part of the world they must be some kind of cult thing cause the prices are sky high (i.e. can get an equivlent smith for the same money or less usually). So I tend to just look at them and move on. I did find the interchangeable barrel concept very cool and wish I could find one to tinker around with and understand the mechanics of it better.

Ive owned several DW's over the years and they are excellent guns. When I turned 21 (yrs ago) On my B-day I bought a DW .357 as my first handgun purchase.

I bought one of the 6-inch DW .357's back in the days when I was shooting metallic silhouette, and I planned to use it in competition. It was a beautiful gun with a blue job in the Python class, and it shot very well. However, I could never get used to the location of the cylinder release, and the sights did not have positive clicks adjustments like S&W's. Also it was not as easily tuned as a comparable S&W, so I soon sold it and stayed with the tried and true product from Springfield. I still think DW made a great revolver, but it just wasn't for me.
