Saw that in the news. They oughta suspend the guy who hit him for several games. No cause for a late hit like that.

In the past two days...
...we have had the Michigan State/Ohio fight;
The University of Houston/ Brigham Young University fight;
and now this....
Considering a lot of the issues pro sports and particularily football have had in the past few years does anyone NOT see a pattern here?
Expect more of this kind of thing.

The flag was flying before Lawrence hit the ground and his teammate came to give his opinion almost as fast. Clearly bush league.

We have another pre-Madonna Wide out on the Steelers (again) who did his best to get kicked out of the Bengals game yesterday. It's pretty easy to understand why they act like morons on the field when you consider they wear their tested IQ scores on the back of their shirts. Now that the college players are getting paid (I still haven't figured out the formula for that) we'll see more "me me me me" during the games. A "Professional" sports player should be suspended for the rest of the season for flipping off the crowd.
Edit for clarity: He didn't flip the crowd; he made his fingers as a pistol as he was shooting the crowd. Even in football they try to curtail street actors.

It's probably good that professional athletes aren't paid according to their IQ. Some would be doing quite well, but I'm afraid there would be a good percentage of them on the poverty rolls.

As a Clemson graduate and LONG time fan, I've seen many, many Trevor Lawrence games. I think he's a good kid and does things the right way, unlike another former Clemson QB in the league. He's definitely not playing like I thought he would when he was drafted #1, and frustrates me to no end sometimes, but no one deserves a hit like that. If I'm not mistaken, he has recently come back from injury, and as we now know, concussions are the injury that keeps on giving, now and in the future, for some players. Prayers for his quick and complete recovery.

A 3 game suspension is a huge fine. Millions, depending on the contract. A good chance the suspension could be for the remainder of the season! The league will want to send a very strong message.

He apologized and claims it wasn't intentional. Could be. I froze the video several times and it looks like they were only 6 feet apart when Lawrence began to slide at the same time Al-Shaair began his dive.

Leading with the forearm like that should be an instant exclusion offense, regardless of the circumstances. Even so, I take issue with some of the stuff in that video.
First, when you watch that hit full speed, I have to call BS on the commentators who say the defender had time to pull out of a hit. I see roughing the passer calls all the time where the defender has no chance to pull out of the hit because they are already airborne or falling on the QB. Human reaction time and physics are what they are, and cannot be changed. American Football is a rough sport, and people are going to get hurt.
I call BS on them again for saying Lawrence is clearly in the sliding posture. Sure, easy to see from the side of the pitch with multiple camera angles. From the defender's perspective? I'm not so convinced, and again it comes down to the time taken for the defender to see, process, decide what to do, and his muscles to act on that decision.

That forearm to the head/throat area was clearly meant to decapitate the QB. The spin coming from the coach and GM is ridiculous.

That's over the top referring to a guy who's never been ejected from a game, let alone suspended. He has no record of being that kind of player.
We can spend hours watching it in slo-mo from all angles. It happened in a split second on the field. Wrong? Yes. Intentional? I don't think so, not that it matters. But that statement from the NFL is unfair.

I'm pretty sure it's always been fake. I had a junior high teacher who was a referee on local TV back in the 1960's. His name was Al "Bulldog" Thomas and people in the Detroit area who watched wrestling probably remember him. He knew all the wrestlers, Dick the Bruiser, The Sheik, Leaping Larry Shane, etc., and Thomas told us that while they were great athletes, everything was staged.
BTW, Mr. Thomas held weight lifting class after school. Every year on this birthday, he would lift his weight, 200lbs. He said when he couldn't do that anymore, he would know he was getting old. He was in his late 40's back then.

Credit the NFL for doing a good job in getting the thuggery out of football. I remember learning how to throw forearm shivers in high school and even wearing forearm pads to protect your forearms. I also remember head slaps, crack back blocks and being put in "the ring" in practice. This was before the offensive linemen could use their hands and thus gave the defense a tremendous edge in the pit. Also chewing tobacco was allowed and one of the nasty tricks we (the interior defensive tackles and nose guards) used was spitting on the ball. I remember gobbling salt tablets and when asking for a drink of water at practice was a clear sin that your masculinity was questionable. This ain't your daddy's football kids-and it's for the best.
