Is nine pounds a reliable trigger pull for DAO revolvers such as a 340? In general, how low would you go and still expect reliable DA ignition with light centerfire J Frames?

As long as you don't mess with the hammer spring or the strain screw you will be fine as far as reliable ignition, but lightening the rebound spring too much (either by shortening or replacing with one too light) may interfere with trigger return effectively making the gun a single shot.

For defense or duty use, you should never go below stock mainspring weight. And if my measurements are representative, that usually means the DAO pull is in the 11 - 12# range. 9# implies that somebody lightened the mainspring. I run light springs in all my sport guns but NEVER change springs in my defense guns.

The answer actually depends on many factors. I have tricked out a lot of triggers. On SW's, the final DA pull depends on the mainspring, rebound spring, and how well I polish all the friction surfaces. I can get guns down to 6 - 7# which will fire NEARLY all ammos, but would never trust them for life defense. I do get occasional misfires.

IMHO, a duty gun should be polished internally and then have all stock springs installed. That makes the trigger pull FEEL lighter without reducing ignition force.
