Date and correct grip question

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 1905 M&P 4th change HE in 38 spl. Serial number 304xxx. The pistol has a round butt with newer style grips. Any info regarding what year this pistol was made and which style grips are original to the gun would be most appreciated. Thanks, Jim

1919 and with either Walnut stocks with Gold medallions or hard rubber. Walnut is most likely.

I have been searching the internet for these grips daily, it's not an easy task, but I think patience will be key here. It seems that I can find 10 SB grips for every 1 RB. Am I crazy or did S&W make more SB grips than RB?

Have you tried looking on eBay and the gun auction sites for used grips? There are several makers of replica stocks.

I've searched auction sites such as ebay, but still haven't found a good match for my pistol. If anyone see's a pair of walnut stocks with gold medallions in good shape for around $100 let me know. I haven't been able to locate a source for replicas but have considered them as a second choice for a 98% less grips gun.

Even if you can find only a less than pristine pair of the correct grips, buy them. There are several people around who can refurbish them to like-new condition for less than $100, provided they are not complete basket cases.
