I am looking at a Pre-29 for possible purchase with serial S153XXX. Does anyone have anything close to that with a date, other than what the SWSC book says?

Most likely mid to late 1956. If you want to PM me the full number I might be able to get a little closer.
The SWCA database lists .44 Magnums in this serial range shipped mid-1956 to mid-1957. A quick check of Roy's ship date requests on the SWCA member forum confirms this.

S153810 shipped on November 8, 1956, but 44 Magnums with that serial number and a 4-inch barrel shipped as late as May/June 1957.
