Date Help Please

Picked up a 6" 686 no dash today. Wondering about the date on this one. Serial Number AAJ15XX.

Also can anyone tell me the changes made for each dash number on these?

Those triple alphas are rough. 1982 would be a pretty fair guess. Maybe 1983.

There's a whole list in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition. Sorry, those lists of changes are a PITA to transcribe.

Production of the model 686-6 startet 2001.
The changes to the previous model were the internal Hammer and the Trigger Key Lock.

Did you get the original box with end label? This will tell you its age fairly precisely.
