Serial number is 5D891XX (I think there was only two more numbers. The person wanting to trade me blanked it out. Maybe three x's for all I know. I could ask. But maybe you guys know)

Somebody wants me to trade a 4" model 10-7 in pretty darned good shape for my Model 19, 6" er. I'm not sure that is a fair trade. Mine has more wear. But his doesn't come with the same stocks. I have target stocks. He has some beat up magnas possibly, or just a pachmyr. Or faux greyish pearl.

I only am considering trading the 6"er because it's just so long. But I would think pinned and recessed carries a lot more value.

Indeed. If the other guy is only interested in a straight trade, pass on the "deal" and just sell your Model 19. You can find a nice Model 10 in just the condition you want easily and have money left over ;)

nice targets are worth exactly 1/2 the value of the entire 10-7...you make your move...

There would be only two x digits after 891. Standard practice was to not go over 6 digits total, in this case one of them is before the D. There were a very few S&W revolvers with 7 digits in the serial number, but all of those were intended as museum pieces. The one millionth M&P in the original serial sequence (1942) is an example.

As stated above, the one you asked about is from 1979.

And I agree, this proposed trade should be a no-go.
