OK. Have not got it home yet but here is a couple of pics from the seller.

Bought it friday $400 which I feel is a bargain compared to the $1500 I would have to pay for a new 625 here in sweden. It will take about 3 weeks to get my permit for this one. Promise to give you a full report with images as soon as it has arrived home.

that is a "Brazilian" contract gun. if you do a search with the "find" category, there is a wealth of information on those fine revolvers. most have been rode hard and put up wet, yours looks quite good from the pictures

A pretty shabby outside, dents and scratches at the frame together with a pretty worn blueing on the barrel made me a bit concerned when opening the parcel, having the first look at it.

Checked the timing... perfect. Trigger pull very hard but otherwise OK. Opened the cylinder...

... where we have sharp edges and very fine surfaces. Does not seem to have been fired much. Inside of the barrel also in very god shape. No rust, no scratches and very sharp rifling. Took the original grips away. Too small to be of any use so they will be tucked away for storing. Underneath them some surface rust at the frame but spring looks allright. Removed the lanyard loop by taking out the pin and slowly wiggle it out. It will also be stored together with the grips. Removes the sideplate which has the Brazilian crest.

A bit worried to what might be found under it I start inspecting the mechanism. the pieces looks good but some things are pretty different to what I am used to see when opening up a S&W. A strange type of hammer block is attatched to the side plate. Kind of a spring with the block leaning into the mechanism. The hand has a angled surface that is supposed to press the hammer block out when pulling the trigger. Surfaces on this gadget are pretty rough. As my gun is going to be a shooter I decide to remove it. That was a misstake. I broke the spring... OK, sh_t happens, it was going to be removed and now it is. The only thing in the mechanism which also is different is the hand spring. Spends a couple of hours polishing surfaces. Changes the rebound slide to one that has been prepared in advance. Mirror polished and a 11 lbs rebound spring. Swaps the original mainspring to a RP Wolff spring. Pretty satisfied with the DA pull. The hardness has been reduced by estimately 60 to 70% and smooth as butter.

Put a modified Hogue monogrip to use during test firing tomorrow. Range report will follow.

Edit: misspellings...

Well, I do not know how well your gun shoots but I am satisfied with the accurracy of mine. Tried it out today after our monthly IPSC postal match.

12 shots DA with slow pace (about 0.50 to 0.60 splits) firing gave about 4 inches but 4 to 5 inches low. Testing was done at 15 meter (about 16.5 yards).

Ammo was homecooked 4.5 grains VV N310, PMC primer, Archipelago 225 grains coppercoated re-striked bullets (ogive with a 1/5" meplat). OAL 1.22 inches.

Update...
I have now committed my first IPSC match with this gun. Finished 5th, with 87%. 4 guys ahead all used S&W 625s...
Some more customizing has been done since my last report though. Bobbed the hammer. Polished all relevant surfaces of trigger and hammer. Widened and deepened the rear sight notch. Lowered and undercut the front sight. Chamfered and polished the cylinder holes. And also put on a modified Hogue grip. Will put some images up later on.
All in all I am pretty satisfied with what can be done at the IPSC range with a gun as cheap and old as this. Fun to hear all comments too :-)

Per Roy Jinks, the first group of Brazillian Contract Revolvers had serial numbers in the range of 181983 through 207043. Shipment began in 1938. Looks like yours was a very early one.

Hey ConnyF: send me an e-mail; I would like to talk to you off-line. I would have sent you one, but you don't have an e-mail address listed in your public profile.

If it's of any help, my Brazillian 5" S/N 1707XX was shipped in April 1946, per Roy. Mine is also a little stiff in the trigger, but I'm still trying different loads in it. 4.3 Gr W231 behind a 200 Gr SWC seems to be accurate, but shoots low about 3-4" at 25 yds.
