Date of manufacture please for M&P

I just purchased a S&W M&P revolver and would like the date it was made. It has a square butt and 5 inch barrel, caliber 38 special. Serial number marked on butt is either a C or O missing part of circle on right sIde and long gap then number 3768xx. Any help would be great. Thanks

Well, the C prefix starts in 1948 at C1 and goes to 1967 ending with C999,999. Never heard of a 0 prefix. Assuming a C sometime in mid to late 1950s off the top of my head.

It can indeed only be a C prefix, from around 1956.

The long gap is a legacy of the WW II era lanyard swivel that used to be in the middle; the gap didn't go away until some time later.
