Hi. I am looking at purchasing a Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model Revolver. However, I live in Canada and the date of manufacture is critical in determining Antique status. I have been trying to figure it out but haven't been able to. Hoping someone here may be able to help as I have seen other threads dating them.

The serial number is 27913.

Thanks so much for any help

"Impossible to tell when it was made-------"

I suppose that's a reasonably accurate if somewhat disingenuous response if one was referring to when the frame was struck, or the serial number was applied, but the prior response very likely refers to when the gun was completed----and put in a box----ready to shoot; and I, for one, would be a whole lot more interested in the latter than the former-----never mind the legal niceties or technicalities-------of either country. That's how our lawyers make their living.

Group, I don't dispute Don's opinion of " it's impossible to tell when it was made." I can only say my info. , as posted, comes from the Floor Foreman's handwritten note book where he posted daily the date & serial numbers of S&Ws assembled by his workers , as he paid them by piece rate so he needed to know production results to keep his payroll records correct. Granted there could be a couple days before the guns went into the vault and available for shipping, but after 140+ yrs., I'm not sweating it. Ed
