Dates of Manuals

Back when the manuals contained prices on parts, they usually had a disclaimer that prices were effective as of X date. When they quit that, they sometimes had a print date in the lower corner of the pages. You can sometimes narrow it down by the picture of the gun on the front page or even the model. S&W did not waste money needlessly so the same manual can span several years.

The Standard Catalog has a section on publications that is very helpful but as others have asked, what manuals are you referring to.

There are the early catalogs, there are the All Model Circulars, there are the modern catalogs and then there are the parts lists that came with the gun and tools.

It would be helpful to know which ones you are reffering to in order to correctly answer your inquiry.
