Dating a k22

I purchased a k22 today... because I'm a sucker for a smith and an even bigger sucker for anything .22... I'd like to know around when it shipped, serial number is k122xx. More pictures coming later.

If that is the complete SN then it looks like 1947.

The stocks are nice. But, they are a later acquisition.

Verify that you have only five digits and not six.

K11298 shipped in December, 1947
K13504 shipped in January, 1948

Yours was likely sent out about that time.

The Magna stocks on yours are much later than the gun. That style shows up around 1967.

Just to add a bit (probably of confusion) to JP@AK's info, sn K11739 also shipped in December 1947.

That is indeed the full serial#, all numbers match save the stocks, which I had assumed were later, but they're nice enough it didn't bother me much.

Dating? Roses and a bottle of wine worked for me. Oh, wait, dating a K22.

The grips that are on it now look like magna PC's. That's from their rounded bottom. PC's often went on 2" guns or those that were to be carried under clothing. Take 'em off and save when you find a proper set of square bottom diamond screw hole grips. Those aren't especially cheap.

The upward bend of the hammer spur is correct for the build era of your K22.

From the picture, looks like its been well cared for and shot a little. Take it to the range!
