Long-time S&W fan here...

I've got a nice 4" Model 617 that I got a few years ago, and while it shoots very well, I've been hankering to get an older "blued" Model 17 similar to the one I had back in the college years -- that I foolishly sold off to pay for some keyboard equipment. (Well OK, I got a Hammond B3 and Leslie 147 rotating speaker -- so maybe it's wasn't so foolish after all!)

But now that I no longer tour with what seemed like 2,000 pounds of keyboards and speakers, I've been looking for a nice Model 17 again to help reconnect me with the past. Plus it seems the older I get, the more I like the older stuff.

Anyway, I found this "almost mint" Model 17-2 today, with the Serial Number K6327XX, and it has the pinned barrel, target hammer & trigger, and the cylinder is recessed for the rims.

The action is very crisp, and there's only a faint turn line, so I don't think she was shot very much. And the dark figure in the target stocks (I think these are called "Cokes" in S&W parlance, correct?) really captured my attention and helped to seal the deal.

I think I did pretty well for $600 out the door ? ? ?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me put a date on this one.

If Old No7 is in reference to Jack Daniels I will raise a glass of Single Barrel to your great acquisition and what you paid for it. Congratulations! hardcase60

17-2

You have a beautiful Model 17-2 and for a very
good price. I have a Model 17-3 that was shipped
in 1977/1978 that I wouldn't sell for anywhere near
for what you paid for yours.

Very nice Smith! You did well on the price. I bought a "Buy it Now" 17-2 last July for $550. It is SUPER nice, but had rubber grips on it. (1964 on mine) K5622xx. It has smooth targets on it now. Wish I had a set like yours! Enjoy! Bob Bob

Congratulations! I think you got a fantastic deal. Getting those nice target stocks is a real bonus too. I know you will enjoy reliving your past and future with that beauty.

I have a 17-3 that I bought many years ago with original box etc. What is interesting is that it came with no Ts, just magnas and standard trigger and hammer. I would have thought the Md 17 would usually come with the 3 Ts, but what do I know?

The Hammond B3 and Leslie! What an icon they are.
