Deal of the day at Gander Mnt

I've bought two guns from GM (located about 60 miles away) and I received good deals on both. One was a used M459 that was priced for $300; I asked the manager if that was as low as he would go on the gun, and he took another 10% off. With sales tax, I got OTD for under $300.
The second one was a NIB Ruger LCP, again OTD for less than $300.
The real reason I go there is they have premium ammo most of the time, albeit at slightly higher prices, but less than what I would pay with hazmat shipping charges.

Scored another one yesterday. I was looking for a Blackhawk Serpa holster for a Beretta 92 and as I was looking through the cases, spotted a Model 642 with a price tag of $299. I asked to look at it; the salesperson took off the trigger lock and handed it to me. The gun had been shot, evidenced by the faint burn rings on the front of the cylinder, but was spotless. There was a very faint drag ring on the cylinder, less than what is on my 637. No box or papers, but for that price (I didn't even bargain), I thought it was worth it. OTD for $321.

I got a great deal on custom hand built half stock M/L a few years back from a M/L shop next to a Gander Mountain store in Chambersburg PA.Closest I've ever been to a good deal in one of their stores.

I bought a 38/44HD post war transition gun (5" barrel with short action)from GM in WI for around $400 last year via the internet. It was refinished with K frame grips, but in great shooting shape. Refinish was not too bad. It now has Sanbar Stag grips on it.

GM

GM by me has been no place for deal in years...their new 642s with IL are in the case for $499. They charge $25 for FFL transfer - so I could buy from Bud's and transfer through them for $100 less!?

There's a GM near me, and everything I've looked at has been anywhere from $50 to $100 more than I could get elsewhere.

GM is the same here....i just wonder how they stay in business

they owe their existance to gun buyers that haven't researched gun prices...and a 800% markup on the high quality chinese merchandise throughout the store. :D

my only reason to step foot into GM is to handle a certain model firearm that i am considering buying. if i like it, i'll order from a retired coworker with a FFL. i'd much rather he make money than GM
i agree with everyone about the used guns at GM going for more than brand new ones elsewhere.

I presently buy the vast majority of my ammo on line and pay no HAZMAT or extra shipping. At places like http://www.luckygunner.com and http://www.palmettostatearmory.com it seems to me (without checking) that it costs about $8 to ship up to 1000 rds.
And the ammo prices are much better on line. http://www.Ableammo.com often has great deals too.
The Gander Mountain near me in Novi Michigan a couple of years ago raised their ammo prices to the point that I believe that they really don't want to sell it.

I was in a GM looking at a 3 screw Ruger that was un-converted. The price was a little high but I was interested anyway. It was obvious the sales guy new nothing about a 3 screw, or the conversion process.

I started to remove the cylinder to get a look at the barrel and the salesman had a fit. "only the gun smith can take guns apart" he told me. I gave him a good look, left the gun in pieces on the counter and just walked away.

They are not even worth my time to browse around.

I have gotten one deal, at least, a "kinda" deal at Gander Mountain. Original, matching W. German Sig P220 in .45 with two original mags and original box for $600, in excellent condition.

It wasn't an amazing deal, however, the cheapest you find one in that condition online is usually $550-600, and then you pay $30 shipping and $25 transfer to get it in your hands. Considering I could pick it up right there and it had the original box and second mag, I jumped.

Other than that, GM does seem to have few and far between deals. When the clerk told me a bonus about buying from GM is the one year warranty, I didn't say anything, but was somewhat smirking to myself... I am buying an older Sig specifically because it WON'T need a warranty!

Stopped by my local GM today for a good laugh. They had a used 460 for 1350.00 What a deal.

Sometimes they do have some deals. About a year ago I went into a GM near my borther's house. They had what appeared to be an unfired very early Dan Wesson 357 Magnum with the external barrel nut priced at 349.00. Unfortunately, brother lives in Ohio and I live in Michigan and it was the Christmas break, so I passed on it. However, at some point I think the first series DW's will become collectable and I expect that it had the potential to grow into a 1000 dollar gun if I kept it as a safe queen.

However, in general they seem to really like keeping their guns. On the same trip that had an older stamped slide, mud rail, 9mm P226 with lots of finish wear and obviously well used priced at 699.00, at best that was a 400 dollar gun.

Silly me, I paid $500.00 out the door for my 8 3/8th 25-5 six months ago, the dang thing dident even have a box, I got ripped!

Even Crazy prices on their Ammo, Blazer brass in 40 cal that you can buy at wally world for 14.99 is 29.00 there.

I've got a GM really close to the house (like a 2 minute drive),
but as far as guns and ammo go I stay away
because of their pricing, it's too bad since they are so close!

I did go there a few weeks back to just to check
out a few 1911's, doing general research.
I ended up buying a Dan Wesson PM7 45
that they had marked as a used gun.
Came with papers, tools and spent test
cartridge still in a sealed dated envelope.

After all was said and done it turns out it was
what CZ/DW considers a blem (a non functional
cosmetic boo boo). I don't think it was ever fired
besides the test firing they do at the factory,
and I have yet to find any blemish on it.

They did adjust the pricing and the bottom line
was, I got it, and two boxes of ammo for $700.
Figured at that price blem or not, I couldn't go wrong.

I wasn't familiar with CZ/DanWesson before this
deal, but they put together nice tight fitting quality guns.
Plus ther is somewhat of a S&W connection.

I still think GM is generally overpriced, and you have to be really lucky to get out of their stores with a good deal.

Here's a photo of it...

I don't know whats going on with the local GM but they got rid of their gunsmiths and as of the end on this month they are no longer honoring their $10.00 Ganderbucks cards. Rumor has it that all the employees had to reapply their job applications also.
