I got more work done to my 86 Allegro, and started the 454 again to let it idle. I replaced the clearance lights. They still are not working.
I installed new headlights, headlights plugs, a painless headlight switch, and painless windshield wiper switch for the passenger side windshield wiper. Got that windshield wiper working. But my upgrades and repairs exposed problems. My headlights and high beams worked until I replaced the headlight switch. Now it's blowing fuses. But strangely my blinkers work. They weren't working before then. I isolated the wire that was blowing the fuse by the process of elimination. Orange wire, I traced the orange wire to the fuse block. But I couldn't find the orange wire anywhere under, rear or front of the Allegro. So I cut away all the electrical tape. I found some questionable 12 volt electrical engineering from Tiffin in the process. I gave up and unscrewed the fuse block, and flipped it over. The orange wire is fed by a red wire. That red goes through the floor under the driver seat. Well, there is several red wires. I gave up at this point.
Between that and the very 80s 12 volt electrical engineering. I decided to buy a new universal fuse block, new ignition switch, new windshield wiper switch for the driver side windshield, and other things.
There is also some 1980s rv accessories left in. I also found evidence someone had a CB radio hooked up. I also found another ball shape vacuum canister under my dash. The windshield wiper motors work great. That's a good sign.
My instincts to buy a classic rv is spot on. I have a good understanding of classic vehicles. Chevy P30 chassis is insanely inexpensive to source parts for.
Now the problem is there is no factory replacement fuse block and wiring harness. So I had to buy a universal wiring harness. This is going to be a huge undertaking.
I think Tiffin sourced a lot of these parts from local auto parts stores.

This is where deja vu comes in. I know how to do all this because I done it before. On my 1966 Chevy C30. The truck that nearly killed me. In fact, the repairs I am making to my Allegro is similar to the ones to my C30.
Both my Allegro and C30 had a aftermarket electric fuel pump poorly installed, both had 12 volt electrical problems, both needed new tires, and so on. I corrected the fuel pump on the C30. Isolated the issue on my Allegro and deleted the electric fuel pump all together. I replaced my fuel tank on the C30. I'm going to treat the Allegro fuel tank later.
The C30 was meant to pull my home. The Allegro is my home.
Maybe I should build a roll cage around my driver seat.

I know some would simply bypass the original wiring. But I already plan to install some electrical accessories, like funny enough a cb radio, search light and some other stuff. I already installed a painless aux fuse block last summer. So doing this my way gives me 100% control.

Hats off to you for doing your own wiring and sticking to it til you succeed
I wired a trailer from scratch once, got all the way to the end and realized I'd made the tongue end plug about 4" too short , wouldn't be able to turn corners lol
About that time a guy from the neighbourhood stopped in and asked me if I'd be interested in selling the trailer
Yes! Make me an offer !
Still don't have a trailer

Another reason I sold our 08 Four Winds with less than 30K miles. After wife passed lost interest in using it even for shows. A Real PITA to keep up. From what I hear new RVs are a nightmare due to a total lack of quality.

I got plenty of practice with 12 volt wiring. Most guys would have rigged it up and bypass it. But I don't make short cuts like that.

More times than not, it's easier to just build your on wiring harness.

I ordered a universal harness. Should be in today. Going to start on it tomorrow. I also have a lot of left over materials from previous projects

Rv are basically portable houses. Like houses need to be maintained. My Allegro is stout though. I love it. But you couldn't give me a post 2000 rv with all the different things that will go wrong with them.

Was talking to a guy I know that uses a major rv dealership in JAX, he said last time he was there a couple bought a $25K class A few months ago and didn't get off the lot before one roof top AC broke. nuf sed.

You couldn't give me a brand new motorhome for free. To much can go wrong with them.

I found some older Winnebago adds from the late 60s and early 70s. It was weird how the adds was mostly about how practical and rugged they were. Now it's about luxury
