I had four nice revolvers - 67,60,63 and 642 - but sold them late last year and earlier this year. I know, I know - that was a bad move. Now I want back in but can't find any new ones. Checked the big national retailers - Cabela's, Gander Mtn., Bass - as well as online at Bud's, etc. and my two local gun stores. Nothing. Are there any to be had or are they really on back order until next year as one guy told me? I imagine the used market is tough also. Thanks.

Probably some on gunbroker but bargains are hard to get there.
 
GunBroiker may be your friend, although there are a variety of opinions about GB on this Forum. One fact remains: on GB you will find the S&W you want. Condition and price are two other stories. I have bought 14 guns off GB. One was a disappointment, and a real learning experience.

Rule #1: If you are patient, you will find the S&W you want at your price and condition. Good luck.
 
I just found a new 625 JM at my local dealer last week. They had just logged it in the day before and had not put it out. I was the first customer to see it and I bought it. They did say they were very hard to get and I believe it, first one I had ever seen anywhere.
 
My LGS seems to have one of just about everything over the course of 3-6 mos. I'm partial to Sigs, S&Ws and just bought an Ed Brown Cobra Carry there. They treat me well and mange to take a little here and there off the sticker price. I especially like how they deal with women, courteous and professional with great advice but without judgement.

I live in LA and have several option within 50 miles; can't imagine going else where.

I live in Pacific Northwest, and I have to say, the LGS's that I go to have their inventory to about 3/4 of what it was prior to the big buy. That includes a lot of S&W. I picked up a Shield last week for $399. They had both calibers and more in the back room. I'm also seeing a ton of revolvers including PC's that I haven't seen in a while. I would say go to your LGS and ask them to check their supplier.
 
I go to Bud's Gun's in Lexington KY. I bought a new and used S&W and they had a good selection in the past 6 months. Not sure how they work but their bricks and mortar store is different than the online store.

Also just picked up a "no lock" 642 at the LGS.

Guns are out there, be patient.
 
Firearms including S&Ws are usually available in Houston. Houston Gun Collector Firearms (like Buds mentioned above) has their inventory on the internet including old as well as new S&W's. Collectors Firearms
 
I haven't bought a new S&W since 1987, but I have done business with these guys on GA, and their drive away prices on new S&Ws beats all the LGS, that is, if I can find new S&Ws at an LGS. If they don't have what you want, maybe they can order it.

BTW, Oak Hill is THE place to go if you want an STI 1911, and I live within 3 hours of where the STIs are built!

Local gun stores in NorCal seem to have better stock than six months ago. I've bought four new S&Ws in the last year at LGSs
 
All my local stores are always way overpriced. I've never seen a price I'm willing to pay locally.
I've bought my guns either through gun ads on local gun forums and meet up ftf, or GB,
where I've gotten some very good deals.
The key to GB is patience. Most buyers have little.
 
I have bought three S&Ws within the past six weeks or so. I bought a Model 66 (no dash) over Gunbroker, a Model 36-2 (for my daughter) over Guns America, and a brand new Model 617-6 from McBride's in Austin, Texas. McBride's is one of the largest gun dealers in the country, and will generally have some in stock (I got his last M617). The guns that I bought over Gunbroker and Guns America were in excellent shape, and I am very happy with both.
 
I'd been out of the game for a long time. Once I got over the sticker shock it didn't take too long to see that my gun shops were bare. I've bot 4 Smiths on GB recently incl. 2 rare ones, haven't overpaid, quite happy.

I'm looking primarily for older ones but have see new Smiths sell there reasonable. Not married to GB, but they do have the most....
 
Persistence and patience seem to be the key. While nice older S&Ws have been much in demand in the DFW area for the last six to eight months there are many for sale. LGSs, pawnshops, and gun shows have all had nice specimens but you've got to be there to get them. Getting by every week or so and getting to know the owners is helpful so that if they know you're interested in certain types they'll call you. Even though the shelves have often been bare, I've found quite a few during this "drought" period with most in excellent condition at reasonable prices. . .just have to pass on those that aren't.
 
I frequently visited 2 small gun stores that were close by on my weekly travels. I found that they were unable to get any S&W revolvers to stock.
I occasionally visited a more rural town which had 4 gun stores and they were unable to get any S&W revolvers to stock.
In my travels I would stop by gun stores in other areas and they were unable to get any S&W revolvers to stock.
From this I concluded that S&W was putting all it resources into producing AR's and semi-auto pistols. Since I found a few overpriced revolvers on Gunbroker, I thought S&W was producing just a small amount of revolvers.
An acquaintance told me of a large gun shop in a town that I don't normally get to and claimed that they had a large stock of handguns. Given what I had seen above, I had my doubts and thought they probably had a bunch of Tauruses and semis and this guy couldn't differentiate those from Smith revolvers. But eventually I made it to this store and found a pretty good stock of Smith revolvers. They even had 2 of some models. I expressed my amazement to another customer and he told me of another store in another town which was on my way home which he claimed had a big stock also ( and better prices.) I stopped there and sure enough it was true. I bought a 6 inch 617 which I am still waiting for due to my states 30 day wait between handgun purchases but it is locked up in the gun stores safe.
So what does all this mean. Some stores seem to be able to get new revolvers from Smith and some don't. Since the 2 well stocked stores are new to me, I don't know that much about them but they seemed to be higher volume stores than most of the other stores that I had previously visited that have no stock. Seems like Smith or their distributors allocate revolvers to stores based on volume.
To the OP, I would say, keep searching other stores and you might eventually find some that are getting new stock.
 
I see you are in Denver. Drive up to Loveland Jensen arms has at least a half dozen. Rocky mountain shooters supplies in Foco has some and you might check Bear arms in Windsor I have found some there before but haven't been there in a while. Check arms list.com although you will need someplace to transfer
 
Other than the 642 and 442 J-frames and the new polymer Bodyguard 38, Smith & Wesson revolvers don't show up much around here, not in the big box stores nor in the smaller mom-and-pop shops, or if they do they are snatched up before I see them. That's why I bought my 627 Pro the moment I saw it, even though it cost me a few bucks over MSRP.

Got both of my new S&W's (M&P40c and 67) earlier this year, the 40c at Buds and (what luck!) the 67 at Impact Guns. Good luck trying to find either one of them anywhere now.
 
I haven't bought a new one for awhile, I like the older ones. Locally here in the Bangor area good used Smiths are like finding hens teeth. hopefully that trend will reverse soon.
 
"New S&Ws?" You mean they are making new Smith and Wessons? :D

Like just about everyone else seems to be saying, I look for used examples of the models I want, with most being at least 20-30 years old. I just can't get past the IL, and I also like the older pre-MIM parts and the older type frame forgings. JMHO, YMMV!

The last time I was able to walk in my LGS he sold out all the new S&W revolvers. I managed to get three new ones before he sold out a m57, a m58 and a m24. I did find a used m29 still gunshot. One LGS did say he could order any new s&w gun I want. Soon I will test those words. I want a new m29 & m27 in nickel with 6 1/2" barrels.

My only regret is when I purchased the others I should of bought them all on the plastic.

This might make a good ongoing thread or sticky for folks to post stocking LGSes, if they dont mind sharing sources.
I'm in Fort Worth and don't get to many LGS. The two stocking I know around here are Elk Castle and D/FW shooting sports. Both are high on new guns but get lots of consignments that are sometimes good deals.
