In the beginning with my 6”/357 mag python we tried every bullet weight and load. In the end the test results were Speer 140 gr JHP bullets, 2400 powder, magnum primer. Pin point accuracy to 100 yds, if I do my part. It’s not a max load.

When I had it I used Winchester Silvertip 140 gr. or Speer Lawman HP in the same weight. I don't currently carry a .357 for SD. The Speer is long out of production and Silvertip is unobtanium. If I had it to do again I'd buy 125 gr HP from a major manufacturer. For years the stats showed that as the top one shot fight stopper. May still.

The Speer 158 grain Gold Dot didn’t perform well in Lucky Gunner’s testing. Much better options out there as many here have opined…

Remington 158 grain SJHP in my 3 inch 686+. Speer 135 grain short barrel in my 2 1/2 inch model 66.
