Never a good idea to poke a finger at a dog that doesn't know you very, very well. 
Glad you are OK - might want to check with the neighbor to make absolutely sure "Fido" has had all his shots!! Lots of clean bandages and maybe a visit to your local MD for some antibiotics would be in order as well just in case "Fido" hasn't had his teeth cleaned in a while, or he happens to be a poop eater.
Best to you and I hope you heal well - most of this type of wound will heal without much of a problem if cleaned well and kept clean until it's healed.

Last two surgeries I had on my hands (carpal tunnel and trigger finger) the instructions sent home by the doc specifically said NOT to use Neosporin. Said if I needed anything to use Polysporin. I think I have seen this somewhere else, too.
Good luck with that bite.

What kind of pooch was it? It gave you a pretty good one. He wasn't playing.
If it starts to swell,head to the doc for some antibiotics.Dogs have filthy mouths.

Re the Neosporin - I figure to stop using after today - it seems to keep the wound "juicy" - I figure now better to let it start drying and healing naturally.
I don't know what breed - longer black hair - about size of a lab.
I think it ripped open because I instinctively pulled my hand back.
Keeping close eye on it for signs of infection - will check with doc if it swells.

Perhaps you Need to get that checked? From the pic it seems almost stitch worthy. With the number of bizarre infections going around these days no sense taking a chance.

The dog was on his side of the fence. We always tell children not to stick their hands thru fences to pet animals for a reason. The gentleman was injured but he knows it was his own fault. He accepted the consequences of his mistake. Be reasonable.

Several years ago I trapped a feral cat and took her to the SPCA to have her spayed. They told me to be careful and that if she bit me to have a doctor look at it right away because one of their workers lost the use of a hand after a cat bite. Long story short I got careless and she bit me in the trigger finger. I went and got it taken care of but after a couple of years it started hurting and I can not make a fist with that hand because my trigger finger will not bend very well. I can still shoot gun with out any problem. I had an orthopedic doctor look at it a few years ago and he told me what I had was called trigger finger. I told him yes Doctor I know it is my trigger finger, that is why I want you to fix it. They gave me a cortisone shot and that helped for a while. I even had physical therapy on it last year but I have just decided to live with it. You should have a doctor look at that finger right away.
That's one nasty looking bite. I would see a Doc or go in to the ER. May need stitches or at least some antibiotics. You do not want to take a chance with loosing a finger over this. I work in a hospital X-ray dept with supports the ER and see lots of instances of people coming in well after the fact because they thought it was nothing. Had they been timely with seeking treatment, serious complications would have been avoided. BTY, Dog bites are usually cleaner than the human variety. Think it has something to do with the amount of saliva! Cat bites are the worst.

Here's another vote to go get that seen about.
Just last week my pastor's daughter was bitten on the knuckle by their house dog. Almost immediately it started swelling and red streaks started running from the bite out onto her hand. She wound up spending about three days in the hospital with drips containing multiple antibiotics fighting a pretty severe infection.
EQGuy, your "trigger finger" may or may not have anything to do with the cat bite. I had surgery on two fingers (including my trigger finger) on my right hand for the "trigger finger" condition last year. Mine had gotten where they would almost lock up.

What comes to mind is the poor young lady in GA that was swimming, got a scratch and ended up with that horrible flesh eating bacteria. Just unbelievable and horrible I can not imagine.

The dog that bit you...should be monitored for rabies; by a health clinic. If it dies of rabies --- you will have to go get treated. Looks like stitches are in order for that bite.
