I received an email today with a solicitation to invest in a new DeLorean EV venture. Appears someone is trying to raise $50 Million (at $4.50/share, private placement) to resurrect the brand. I think I’ll pass on it at present. It is a fairly lengthy solicitation so I will not attach it. But the car looks pretty cool. Just thought some of you might be interested, as I had not heard of it. Presumably, the company’s operation will be headquartered here in San Antonio.

This company will not manufacture the cars, rather they will be engineered, designed, and manufactured in Europe and sold in low numbers and at high prices in the USA. Projected to be around 1600 units/year within five years. Just like the Ferrari business model. And probably at Ferrari prices ++. Rollout planned for 2Q 2026. Bitcoin accepted, advance reservations required in the form of NFTs.

I posted this response previously to Rusty's pic above in the "Memes" thread.

Daughter of John DeLorean hopes to repair father's damaged legacy with re-launch of iconic car

It turns out that there are TWO DeLorean cars being built. The one in the article above, headed by John DeL's daughter, Kat, is not an EV. The other one, the Alpha 5 that DWalt started this thread about, is an EV.

This Hagerty article (which is mentioned in the article I posted) explains it.
"...What about the other DeLorean company, the one that’s making the Alpha5? That outfit is based in Texas, not New Jersey, and headed not by a member of John Z.’s family but by Joost de Vries, an executive who spent six years at Karma Automotive.

Further complicating matters is that de Vries’ company is not to be confused with Classic DMC, founded by Stephen Wynne. A Liverpool mechanic who claimed rights to the DeLorean name in 1995, Wynne obtained the original company’s parts inventory and factory drawings. With them, he built a successful business servicing and reproducing parts for the original 9000 or so DMC-12s. (Wynne holds a minority ownership stake in what now bills itself DeLorean Motor Company, the makers of the Alpha5 who were until recently known as DeLorean Reimagined.)

If you smell a legal battle in the future, that nose is working.

It's funny this came up. The DeLorean shop where they are doing all of the engineering is across the parking lot from where I work in San Antonio.
When they first moved in they had a DeLorean (one of the last originals built) sitting in the parking lot. They drove into the workshop bay and invited everyone for coffee and donuts and then pictures of the old one. The new cars serial numbers will start after the last old one off of the assembly line!

Doing a little research, the DeLorean situation seems more than a little hinky at present. It seems that last spring they vacated their former operation location at Port San Antonio and moved to an office building in downtown San Antonio. But the office building itself is involved in a long term ownership dispute and it is difficult to establish how that is affecting the DeLorean venture. Then there is a dispute over the loss of non-fungible tokens (NFT) that prospective buyers had to purchase to get a place in line to buy a car. Too complicated for me to follow. This is an article that attempts to explain the situation, but it makes very little sense to me. See what you think. Update: DeLorean Motors Reimagined Is Relocating, Not Closing - Hagerty Media

Ah, yes. The old acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Is DeLorean's daughter offering cocaine as an incentive to investors?

Prior to relocating to San Antonio, DMC had a facility in Humble, TX not too far from me. I saw several Deloreans there but never much activity. There were never a whole lot of Deloreans made to begin with and most reports of the original were nothing to write in your journal about.

At this point, I feel that no matter who has it or whatever that DMC is a long gone marquee and a product of its time. It's main publicity came from the movies otherwise you'd probably have to google what one was to begin with.

No. I don't see a comeback for this make.

Does it come with a new Bren 10?
Only if you buy a NFT with Bitcoin to get on the list.

It has been close to 20 years ago, but I once passed up a chance to buy a fairly nice condition DeLorean for $5K.

Seems that a movie about the DeLorean saga should have been made.

I have seen several estimates of the original DL car production, 7000 to 9000. Wonder how many survived? I remember someone in the Houston area bought up the remaining parts inventory after production stopped. As I recall, John DeLorean was never convicted of drug dealing, sort of an entrapment thing. I met him once at a meeting back in the early 1960s, but very briefly. Long before the DeLorean car. Also met Lee Iacocca at around the same time period, equally briefly.
