I was talking to my Mom yesterday and she casually mentioned an email she got. It was about a plane ticket for a trip to Lexington on October 5th. When I asked she said she was not planning to fly anywhere. She was rather amused. My red flag immediately went up. I told her there were two possibilities: One, somebody stole her credit card number, or, worst case, her identity, and bought a ticket in her name. Two, it is a scam, and any clicking on attachments will give you a virus. I told her to forward the email, but not to click on anything.

Here is what it said:
Return emails are to go to sanantoniodentrepair.com. ( Really, like Delta is going to repair dents, in San Antonio).
Order number 00304620
Ticket # ET/-69017471
Seat 19/A
Date/Time 5 Oct., 2014
Ref. ke 6864 57 OK
Bag/1 Pc.

It also had an attachment, and was signed Delta Airlines. No company header or phone numbers. I was pretty sure it is a scam, but I called the 800 number for Delta. Immediately got a message, first thing advising if there was any suspicious emails they are not from Delta. Talked to a representative and described the email, they said yep, that's the one.
Apparently it is widespread. There is, however, no danger that any charges have been made. They just want you to click on attachment to get a virus.

Tell everybody about this. I suspect it is aimed at the elderly.

I open absolutely nothing I get from a email. I will forward it to the company that supposedly it's from and they will email me directly back whether it a spoof or real. If real I still don't open but rather go to the site directly and see what they want. My wife get on the social sites so I get at least 50 or more of these a day. She doesn't understand this is where they are coming from unless some of the firearm related sites are sell or giving away my information.

Look at their contact information and you can usually tell from that. I.E if you get a undeliverable package notice and see it's from someplace other then say UPS you know it's fake.

We have been getting the airline ticket emails for some time I just sent the into the junk folder and delete the junk folder it goes straight away and not into the deleted folder.

Remember you can go directly to the company and find out if someone bought a tick and cancel it. And keep a eye on the CC for a charge.

This is a common scam and has been going on for years. It is like the UPS/FedEx/DHL shipping scams.

Simple to detect - Airlines, shipping companies, Utilities, government agencies, courts, etc. NEVER use EMAIL!!!! Besides, how would they know the email is, in fact, actually the person they sent it to.
