Was almost able to get the Stith/Alaskan fully mounted on the 1927 .300 Savage EG

But the second to last step is to loosen the two top screws of the rear mount so that the scope can slide. This allows allignment of the front mount screw.

Alas, the two Jedi screws will not yield.

Today's attempt to attain Stith Lord status is foiled.

Just had to read this post to see what it was about! Might try a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun very carefully after a little penetrating oil soak. Sometimes a little tapping to shock them helps in breaking them loose.

I have had success in similar situations by using the best fitting tool I had and heating the tool with a small torch well away from the screw head, all the while putting turning pressure on the tool. This seems to send the heat only into the screw not the surrounding metal as much.
