Watched this movie the other night, what a rifle JD Morgan had. I first thought it was an M1 Garand, but wait, a tubular mag.? Then in one scene it ejects the empty as any garand would, the next scene he pulls the left hand bolt after each shot. Dose anyone in Hollywood know anything about firearms? Maybe I'm wrong and this is a custom made rifle of some kind.

That's the gas/piston tube under the barrel, not a magazine.

The online weapon data base says it's a M1, Sporterized.
I just looked at the trailer.
This looks like a movie that I might try to watch on TV, maybe.

Never saw one that extended to end of bbl. Pilgrim, believe your right, the front hand guard is missing.

LOL I watched the film Desierto last night and I was googling it trying to find some information...and one of the hits came back to my very own S&W forum. As for the gun, no one seems to know much about it....calling it "sportsterized". My initial theory was (and still is) that - because this is a Mexican film shot in Mexico on a limited budget, they couldn't afford movie prop guns and probably had to rely on borrowing civilian owned guns. Mexico has pretty strict gun laws, so perhaps semi-autos firing from an en bloc clip are no-no's. Perhaps the Mexicans can own a modified M1 Garand only. I suppose you could disable the gas system and replace it with a spring loaded tubular magazine...which is what the film's character appears to have done. Dunno why anyone would do that when you could just buy a lever gun.

400 Bad Request
