Detailing On Slides

I've seen a few Shields & other M&P's on this site
with the lettering on the slides highlighted with
either white or gold paint & I've got to admit the
idea of doing the same to my 40c is growing on me.
If someone who has done this could please post pics
of their results & exactly how they did it I would
very much appreciate it. What kind of paint, how it
was applied, & how its holding up...that sort of thing.

Often, that is done for contrast with photos. If you do it, use shoe polish or something that is readily removable.

Fingernail polish. Apply to clean surface, fill in the grooves. Let dry for a couple of minutes, use paper towel with non-acetone nail polish remover and gently wipe away the excess. Apply second coat if needed. Again, use remover to take away excess. Lasts indefinitely. If you get bored, you can always remove it later.

Apply a good amount of whiteout. Give it a second or two and wipe it off. Use a drop of rem oil to get white cloudiness off the slide. Mine wears out after a few hundred rounds if I dont let it cool.

I've been on his list since December for all black FS stippled kit. Good guy, great work.

I use the nail polish, non-acetone cleaner route. I was looking for a good contrast that did not jump out and grab you, such as snow white on black. Could not find colors I wanted so mixed white and dark grey in varying ratios to get the color I liked. I actually apply with cotton swabs, dabbing it on until everything is covered. Let dry for 5 or so minutes. Then use cotton swab to slowly remove excess at the edges, and then slowly clean up the details.
If you want to remove, it will take a tooth brush and non-acetone polish remover to remove from the finer engravings, such as the S&W logo.

I used enamel model paint on mine. Aluminum, to be exact. Of course, you can choose any color you prefer. I wanted mine to be noticeable. I cleaned the area first with model paint thinner, then applied the model paint. It was a little heavy and messy, but after a few tries, I got it right. Just wait several minutes for the paint to start drying, fold up a paper towel into sections, so you have a hard edge, soak the paper towel with some paint thinner and start removing the excess paint. Slowly wipe with the edge of the folded paper towel against the painted area, without applying too much pressure. If you apply too much pressure, you will affect the embossed areas. Repeat as necessary until all of the paint on the non-embosssed area has been removed. It took me a few tries to get it right, but you should be able to get the look you are going for in under 30 minutes.
I think this is the way it should have come from the factory, but then, I guess they would have charged $100 more for it then.

I used crayon on my 15-22. But if you use fingernail polish, make sure you use NON-acetone remover. Acetone will eat the polymer.
