The great thing about handgunlaw.us is the real-time links to the official sites for each state. If a state changes their site today, you can read about it today.
Oklahoma changes our laws each Nov 1, except for emergency changes. And this year, the law is changing to allow carry on a public bus!

One of the principals regularly posts here on the Forum with updates to laws. A great service, thanks.
The problem with any hard copy book is that it's generally at least a year out of date by the time it hits the book store.
Can you cite proof that this is true for every self defense law in any political subdivision in all 50 states and territories of the United States?
If not 2016= out of date.

Some do.
However, the book is still good because it will give you the code. Most changes to laws only update the code. So, the number will stay the same, but the verbiage might change. This makes the book and excellent reference. Just be sure to check the laws now and then to be sure they are still current.

The general principles in most states will be very similar. If you want details for any given state, the state laws will usually be on the web; google is your pal. In addition, you should look at the pattern jury instructions for that state, if such exist. They often go in to the case law on the issue.
Example, here in WA: Revised Code of Washington (RCW) is the portion of the official Legislative website that has the statutes. For jury instructions here, go to Washington State Courts Washington Courts, and down at the bottom of the page is the link for pattern jury instructions. That link takes you to a separate website, where you have the option for the criminal or civil instructions. I'm used to both of these resources and have (and do) use them a lot, so I am pretty familiar with them. The jury instructions do have annotations to the committee's thinking, cases, etc. I've used them in jury instruction argument/conferences.

The advice Doug M gave is spot on. Here in CA it is called Criminal Law where they put the jury instructions. The law is good to read, but the CrimLaw is like an expanded or amplified version. Very helpful.

If you wish to look at the changes in a states laws you can view all the updates I have removed from the state pages at these 4 links. Yes some are checking links but there are changes in some states every year. I had to break it into 4 documents as there are so many in the listings and those files are available with a link to them at the bottom of each document on Handgunlaw.us

Local laws do not impact the legal analysis of use of force in any state of which I am aware. Such laws also do not change often. Localities may, depending on the state, have some other restrictions such as discharge of a firearm in certain areas (not a concern to me if I need to shoot and the better drafted ones allow for such use anyway).
