I just received a text from my brother in PA. He and his wife were doing laps in his local mall and stopped in to Dicks Sporting Goods. To their surprise the rifle racks and pistol cases were empty!

Dicks removed all guns/hunting from 125 of its stores back when they sold off Field and Stream. I'm sure there are plans for the rest of the stores in the future.

I've bought golf equipment from them, and always swung through their firearms department on the way out. They were always empty of customers, and never sold anything for a better price than could be acquired at other LGS locally.

I bought my Savage/Stevens pistol-grip pump 12 Gauge shotgun from them in 2012, on election day. Less than $200 retail. Now they have ceased to have any good inventory over the past few years. I don't bother to even go there to look around for anything else they sell.

They don't sell a darn thing that I want that I can't find somewhere else and generally at a better price. If they go bust I won't shed a tear.

My wife works for a company that is very close to a Dicks and I've stopped in there many times waiting to pick her up to eat dinner when she gets off work since there are many good restaurants nearby. Never saw anything that I couldn't get cheaper at Academy and that's even after it has been marked down 25-50%!

Dick's only did one good thing for me. They bought out Galyan's so the existing handgun stock was dumped to the public at wholesale prices. That's how I got my 686+.

The name says it all. Can't imagine how they have stayed in business this long. Has to be a tax write off for parent company. Went in a few times and could never get waited on, so just went somewhere else.

I drive right by one on a regular basis - on my way to and from the gun club. That's the closest I get.

I've been to the one in Medford, Or. twice. There is a Field & Stream attached to the Dick's store. The gun store manager told me that the Ar-15 type guns and accessories were their main gun business at my first visit. Second time, no guns, and local talk wasn't favorable for the stores. I live a hundred miles away, so not really a store I go to anyway.
