I have wanted a Night Guard Series Revolver for as long as I can remember. I live in North Alabama, but today while at a shop in TN I found a BNIB 315NG
a 6 shot in.38 Special. Never been sold or chambered a round. The XS front NS still glow pretty strong. Could not find a scratch. I'm sure the trigger is not PC tuned but man it was smooth in da and light and crisp in sa. Since the Christmas Checkbook Recovery period is still in full swing, I had to put on 60 day layaway and forgot to take pics. All said and done out the door price will be $749.00 and since I bought out of state I'll owe the accepting ffl $25. Grand Total = $$774.00.
What do u guys/ gals think not only of price but the 315NG itself? Will post pics when I take possession. Thanks in advance.

Considering that only 576 of this model were produced and you've been looking for a 315NG for some time, then I'd say you did fine by getting this BNIB revolver for a price you were happy to pay.

That's surprising. They must be 8-10 years old? What year was it made? (Either the fired case envelope or the box end label will say.)

Congrats on your find! I'd have definitely bought it too. ;)

What do you base that on? I've never seen any production numbers for any of the Night Guards & I'm on of their loyal followers (& owner).

I'd say that's a deal. I've always wanted a NG, preferably a 310 or a 357, but since they're as rare as hen's teeth(especially the 310), I'd take one in any flavor if the deal was right. I hate the lock, but I'd make an exception for a Night Guard and just plug it.

I was watching a 310 on the auction site a couple of weeks ago and someone snatched it up at the BIN price a couple days before the auction ended. The last bid was $1805!

To the original OP yes you got a good deal.

I picked up a 315 about 6 years ago and paid around $750 for it without the box and docs.

You did very well.

In regard to the production numbers the "576" number has been posted here before as being the count. Can't recall if someone had a letter done or what. There was also a number in the 700's I think that was kicked around but cannot recall the exacts on that.

I think it was the first model discontinued or something like that.

Come on, did you really need to ask? Maybe you just needed conformation but I thought anytime you can score one of these for under $1000 you are doing well. Honestly I just never understood the hype, as with many other revolvers. Congratulations

I have been looking for a 315NG for years. I live in Chattanooga; please tell me which shop I drove by and missed a 315ng.

I looked for a long time for a 315NG and gave up. I had a 625NG for a while that wouldn't group for me with any load, but I am told that was unique to my gun and I should have sent it back to S&W.
The 315 is the perfect carry K frame in my mind. Ugly enough to not care about the finish much, and practical all round. The only problem is that they are so scarce that all the practicality is lost now. If I found one I would likely baby it.

I just saw a 329 NG at the gun show today in Port Charlotte for $750. I'd have bought it if I hadn't just bought a 629 a few days ago. No gun funds for a couple of weeks:(

Agreed. S&W has made some very short runs of some very handy revolvers. But, some of the Night Guards might still be in production if people would have bought them. After all, they still make the 329PD.

I have been considering putting my 315 up on an auction site, would never let it go for that low, supposedly they were selling for $1000-1300 just a few years ago.

You got a great price.

I've been checking prices lately for a few revolvers that I was thinking of selling and it seems as though the market is a bit soft (not much mind you)at this time. Probably gonna hold on to them and hope the prices pick up a bit.

Deal or no Deal? If I was looking for decades for a certain model and found it nib price means nothing. No buyers remorse here.

Buy low sell high if it's for investment.

I'm always fascinated at the number of people who find really good buys, and/or are able to sell their guns for a profit. I've been a gun owner (mostly handguns) since I bought my first revolver in 1967. I've never found anything for considerably under the going prices being asked and I almost always loose money when I sell/trade guns.

Guess I don't live right or maybe I just have no head for business. Something's wrong with how this stuff works, at least when I crawl out from under my rock. (smile)

What would a like new in box Model 357 Nightguard (41 Magnum) go for these days? It's had 6 - Winchester Silvertips and 24 - 41 Special rounds through it. One of my safe queens. I love the thing. Probably the perfect trail gun. Recoil is very manageable.
