Did/Does S&W make a SS revolver like the 642, that's regual stainless steel?? (Ie: w/o the clear coating and greyish color??) Basically Im looking for a hammerless snub, that has the finish of a regular SS revolver like a model 60, etc.. Im pretty sure I've seen some special run "nickel" models but cant recall a "regular" SS hammerless revolver?? (Im not interested in the bodygauard/humpback design) Thanks for any info!! Mick

Sir, it sounds like you're looking for a Model 640. Click here to see the current version on S&W's Web site.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

The 642 No Dash had an anodized frame & normaly polished barrel, cylinder & crane..
I have one & prefer it's looks to the 642-1s matte finish & spray on clear coat that S&W currently uses on there handguns..

I remember reading a post by DC7 were he said S&W had trouble getting them to match up properly so they changed the finish proccess, this was also about the time MIM parts were intoduced..
I prefer the 642s finish over my 342Ti's spray on finish for sure..
As you can tell my frame doesn't match my stainless parts well & some others do.
It's a real shame as the Anodized frame of my 642 still looks great with many years of carry..
I saw a 642 just like mine even had the Spegals at last weekends gunshow, they had it listed as rare polished frame, Price $650..

Nice looking 640-1 Rolan..
What you'll notice about the 642 No dash is it's Anodized Frame & you'll note that the finish of the barrel crane & cylinder don't match the frame well..
Here's another pic of my Four Centennials
