I would like to buy an older model, Short Frame, Snub Nose .38 Special Revolver with a Frame Enclosed Hammer in either Stainless Steel or Blue Steel (would prefer Stainless).

I currently carry a Model 60 No Dash and I would like to duplicate the size of the Model 60 but have a frame enclosed hammer.

Is the number 642 or something else?

Thanks - J.Solo

I am going to pick-up a 640 this morning. It is the pre-lock stainless 38-special "hammerless" J-Frame. This seller also has a 438, which is a blued AirLite with a concealed hammer, but has the top of the frame exposed enough to allow cocking it for SA. I think either of these would suit your needs. I have issues with the "recent" AirLites, but not the older ones like the 438. I would avoid the 642. I put in in the category of a "recent" AirLite. You see a lot of frame cracking in the recent AirLite guns and the center-pin wear on the recoil shield will scare you to death. Both the 640 and the 438 are 1-7/8 inch fixed sight snubs.

I think the older AirLites (like the 438) were made of better alloy. IMHO...the 640 or the older 438 would be good choices. The 640 can also be found in 357 MAG with a slightly longer barrel. I just don't like the exotic materials they are using in AirLite gun construction nowadays.
