I don't know, but I've heard of worse excuses to post pics! :D

Here's my California Highway Patrol 4006TSW!

It came fitted with a brand new set of aftermarket Hogue Rubber Grips and packaged within a factory blue clamshell case which wasn't original to the firearm and appears to be irregular due to some odd plastic runoff around the edges which I've since scraped off.
Externally, she has some holster wear and a few little surface scratches which would buff right out, but they are only visible from certain angles with sunlight beating directly down upon the firearm, (hence why they're completely invisible in the pics I posted) and wear is part of the mystique of police trade-ins to me, so I'm leaving it as is. Besides, the patterns of said scratches are odd zigzag patterns which look almost like lightning bolts which is kind of cool.

This 4006CHP model lettered as being sent to the CA Department of Parks and Recreation, Parks Services Division in Sacramento, CA.

According to the letter, it was the only one in its VZE serial number range, so it was not part of a larger contract order batch.

It could very well have been the contract sample sent to Sacramento for approval. In the 3rd Edition of the Standard Catalog of S&W, this particular pistol (VZE2492) was listed under "variations" as the known example of a CA State Park 4006.

Fresno Co. Sheriff 4506-1, these came on the secondary market after they transitioned to 4566's. I obtained mine from a local PD officer/armorer, who got it unused from the Fresno SO armorer.

Oh I'm gonna love watching this thread develop. I only have two, both are from the Kentucky State Police. The 1076 has a history of saving a Troopers life, though the shotgun wielding bad guy didn't survive.

The second is a never issued, though marked KSP, 4566 TSW. It is still in the box with all of the paperwork.

I plan on keeping both. I had a twin boxed 4566 TSW KSP, but sold it to purchase something else that I didn't have two of. I would love to have one of those black WVSP pistols.

Let's see some more!

EDIT: Almost forgot the 4046 I recently acquired, although I don't know what agency it might have belonged to, it is stamped with an ID number. WIKI listed a few agencies that used the 4006, including CHP. Then further down is say's specifically that the 4046 was used by the Juvenile Justice Commision. Kentucky calls it the Department of Juvenile Justice, so it was another state I'm sure.

"California Highway Patrol, Colorado State Patrol until 2008, California State Parks until 2009, PA State Constables, Wisconsin DNR-Parks and Forests, and the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Juvenile Justice Commission (Model 4046) until 2009"

Picture was taken before I gave it a bath. :-)

Coolest agency-marked Third Gen ever! I was hoping someone would post a picture of "The Bear"! Love to know how many of them are out there besides this one-of-a kind example.

There's a bunch of them out there now. A few years ago they started showing up en-masse on Gunbroker and elsewhere, after the Park Service traded them in and switched to 4006TSW's, like the CHP.

All due respect, but if we're gonna do this, the gun pics need to include an agency name and/or crest and not just that special serial number prefix! :D;)

Unfortunately, the 4006TSW California Highway Patrol models don't have any agency name or crest inscribed on them, just the CHP SN prefix.

Oh I am 100% behind this thread since this is entirely what i collect.

1st up is my Model 59 from 1974-75 with FRESON CO. stamped on the right side of the dust cover. My understanding is this comes from Fresno County California.

IMG_4523.jpg

2nd is a little off but this Model 469 from 1988 was a Reimport from CDI in KY and the understanding is they came in from Israel so the additional stamped numbers on it lead me to think a Rack Number of sorts from a security force there.

More to come!:)

I had a 6906 years ago from a distributor in Ohio. It was stamped LCSD followed by a number. I called the guy and he told me it was Lucas County Sheriff's. He said some were stamped LCSO rather than LCSD, sheriff office rather than department. Exact same style and font so whoever ordered the engraving on the department batches must have screwed up. It had the hooked trigger guard that I didn't really like and for some reason I shot it like **** so I sold it.

I also have another 5946 from the NYPD. For sure it came from that department but the NYPD doesn't own their weapons, the officer does, so no department markings. It is stamped with "Warning: Will Fire With Magazine Removed" since the mag disconnect was not on NYPD guns.

Now onto the actual 3rd Gen Guns
This 5904 and 6904 both carry the same style of numbering on the right side dust cover and the serial prefix's are 1 letter off from around 1990 so my guess is they were both issued to the same department but I haven't tracked that down yet.
IMG_4527.jpg
Next is this 5903TSW from 2002 I believe. it's seen much better days but the G.C.D.C. is from the Gwinnett County GA Department of Corrections I believe so most likely prison guard or maybe bailiff issued.

The next item for your viewing pleasure is from a batch that hit the market a few years back from Newark PD. This 3953 from somewhere between 1991-93 is also bet up but these are easy to spot since NPD marked them in 3 different places; Slide, Frame, and Barrel for batch cleaning.

IMG_4532.jpg

Now this 5946TSW came from Brinks so it also has lots of wear, dings, and scratches but it also a tank so it doesn't mind it.

IMG_4535.jpg

Another gun i'm still working on tracing to a specific agency is this 6906 from 1991. The G.C.S.D. leads me to believe some county sheriff's department.
IMG_4536_LI.jpg

IMG_4537.jpg

Now this 5943 from 1991 also is one of my favorite shooters with it's weight, trigger, and straight grips. It's also an easy trace with Cleveland Ohio PD etched on the right side.
IMG_4538_LI.jpg

IMG_4540.jpg

And finally here's the 2 guns I'm actually carrying on a regular basis.

1st is this 3914DAO. These were made specifically for the NYPD.
IMG_4541_LI.jpg

IMG_4542.jpg

2nd is this 6946 from 1995 and was issued to Falls River Massachusetts PD.
IMG_4543_LI.jpg

IMG_4544.jpg

That's all of them. I look forward to seeing all the others that are out there and trying to find my own examples of them.
