I have a set of Hollywood Gun Shop .38 Special dies and I'm wondering if there is any way to tell if the resize die is carbide or regular steel?

look in the mouth of the sizing die, if it is carbide there will be a ring of carbide at the mouth you will be able to see the difference in the ring and the die body.

ALL THAT I HAVE SEEN ARE. IT WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO MAKE THE WHOLE DIE OUT OF CARBIDE.

The original Hollywood Gun Shop reloading equiptment dates from the late 40's thru the 50's. Maybe into the 60s?
I don't think I've ever seen a carbide sizer with their name on it, but you never know. Just check for the 'ring' insert on the bottom edge/mouth as 'ronnie gore' says.
There is a current (I think they're still in business?) Hollywood Engineering Co. that is a different outfit from the original company but they say they support the older presses, etc with parts. Also makes new presses.
Don't thnk they make or market dies. But if they do they'll have the 'Hollywood Engineering' name on them instead of Hollywood Gunshop.
Lots of unsatisfied customer reports about them but I've never dealt with them personally. Located in Sun Valley, CA.
