Is there any particular advantage of one type of rail cover over the other, solid v ladder?

Thanks.

I have magpul xtm and ladder rail covers. Ladder rail covers add less width to the handguard and is lighter in weight compared to the xtm covers.

IMO I have found that most covers make the over all size of the hand guard too large. I'm 6'3" and have pretty big paws, but i dont like the extra size of full covers. The ladder covers smooth it out and dont increase the overall size.
Remember though... opinions are like a certain body part. Everyone's got one, and they usually stink. You will most likely end up doing what allot of us already have. Try what you think you want, and then later try something different. That's how you end up with piles of extra goodies to outfit the next gun in the safe.

I've tried em all. I ended up using a LaRue Index Clip on the front and rear of the sides of the handguard so I can set it down on the bench without boogering up the finish.

Been there; did that - several times.;)

I have Xtm Rail as well and I don't mind the width, because use w AFG and you can kind Rest Thumb along the top of the Side Rail. I also like the 2 tone or multi camo effect capability and if fully covered looks like a Hand guard and not Quad rails w covers on them. Imo ofcourse.

My faves are the Knights Armament ones that I stipple, but they don't hold secure on my 15-22's rails thus I have stippled XTMs on the 15-22.

this is a dumb question i know, but what is the point of rail covers (i've searched the forum, searched google, etc)

I've got a mixture on mine I have the Magpul XT cover, and th Troy Full lengtj cover, I must say that I love my Troy covers the best, the Diamond Pattern through out the cover makes a beefy grip that snags your fingers for a more solid contact, but thats my opinion.

I to am using the XTM rail covers in the multi-camo effect. I don't mind the extra thicknes that the covers create because I also have a CAA Folding Vertical Grip installed along with a CAA Bipod:D

I've tried Troy Industries and the cheap UTG covers. As is a previous poster, I'm 6'3" with a good sized hand, and they're still too big. I'm getting ready to go with ladders. All I want to do is keep the sharp rail edges from poking my hands. And I think the slimmer appearance is more appealing.

I have the Magpul XTMs on the sides and the Surefire ladder rail covers on the top and bottom. I like the width the XTM add to the sides and how the ladder covers smooth out the top and bottom.
