I am an old(north of 70) man and I have bought, sold and traded lot's of guns over the years. I still get a high when I get a different new/old gun. Is this normal? Anyone else with this problem. I'm not ready to give it up yet. I am not a collector but a shooter and reloader. I never get too attached to a gun that I will not let it go. Strange I guess you would call it Huh?

I'm also a fairly old dude and I feel exactly the same as you do. I'm forever selling and trading guns, not to make a profit, but in order to make room for the next purchase. I enjoy almost nothing as much as trying out a new one. I manage a near-complete turnover every 3-4 years.

That's exactly the way I do. Never ending turnover.Sell one buy one. We'll have to trade sometime.

I think everyone gets a "High" when they aquire a new Gun..
Some of us stay "Higher" Than others.. :D
That has to do with the size of your pocket book..
I'm down to 7 & feel ashamed of all the great pistols/revolvers I let get away..
Gives me something to strive for..

Anyone around Louisville got a job for a guy who can fix just about anything??
Had To ask..

Well I am not old yet (only 62) but I sure am glad to know I am not by myself. I just bought two and sold 4. But they keep getting better. I'll put some pictures out when they get here. I will say that sometimes it is hard to decide what to sell. I keep about 18 revolvers on hand and when I buy another I have to let something go. I can't wait to get the two I just bought.
One is a really nice Bianchi cup 686 built by clark custom and the other is a 627 PC hunter 8 shot unfluted cylinder and magna ported. Pictures coming soon.

I think that HEADKNOCKER hit the nail on the head. We ALL get a rush out of buying a new gun, especially if it's one that we've lusted over or searched for, for a long time. I wish that I had kept pretty much every firearm that I've ever owned. Unfortunately, to free up funds for the ones that I REALLY wanted, I had to sacrifice some of the others.

Quit drinking 3+ years ago and have been buying S&W revolvers like a crack addict with the leftover money ever since. This Forum doesn't help my addiction!

Wife finally put me on probation for 1 year for any new purchases but doesn't count if I sell and buy another to replace the one I sold. Little bummed but she's stuck with my happy arse going on 30 years through thick and thin so I'm be a good little young 50 YO man.

Worst one I let get away was a pristine 58 back in 85 for a whopping 225.00. Makes me sick when I see em going for 800.00+.

Guns are a gas. I only currently have four Smiths, but I have quite a few other revolvers and semi's. I love the hunt for spare mags for some of my more unique semi's. The thrill of just getting my 627-0 was great! This is just fun stuff.

Sportster guy,
My wife tried to do the same thing as your wife did. She stopped complaining about buying guns when my wife had her baby was out of work for 12 weeks and only got paid for six. To pay the household bills and pay for the doctors bills. I sold my Beretta collection of 32 handguns. and 2 1800's colt peace makers. She never complained about me buying another gun when she found out that They not only held their value but sold fast.

Guys, if you don't mind, I just thought I'd jump in. Forgive me. FYI, I am a new shooter. I had a lot of hobbies when I was young and enjoyed them immensley. Most of my adult life I have never been able to feel that "rush" or duplicate that excitement. Seemed like that passion had gone for good. Until I started this hobby. Aquiring a new gun is an absolute rush, sensation like I haven't felt since I was a kid. I wondered if there was something wrong with me. But I guess not. Don't care anyway.
By the way Deano, I see you are from KY. I grew up there, born in Georgetown and grew up in Frankfort. One of the most beautiful places in the USA. I miss it.

I started my S&W romp in the woods as they say in January of this year. I had my Dad's model 10-5 with 6 inch barrel for about 20 years locked in my safe. I pulled it out gave it a good cleaning and marveled at it's smooth action, beautiful blue and decided that I wanted more. I went on a buying spree that could have bought a really nice car and I'm not sorry because I bought some fabulous guns that I treasure along the way. I'm now at the point like Deano That I will start to trade and swap around to refine my collection. I think that is all part of the game and enjoyment we get from this sickness.

I got my first gun when I was 10 and sold it when I was 11 if that gives you an idea about me and guns. Over the years I have bought, sold, and traded a whole lot of guns. There are a few that I miss but everybody has those stories. Mainly though I met a lot of good folks, learned a lot, and had some fun.
My wife used to look at me funny when I would drag another gun home, but like Panamajack310's wife she learned when crunch time came that guns are poor man's real estate.
The two biggest thrills for me are when a new gun I have wanted a long time shoots a tight group and I know I have a winner and when I pick up a historical gun and feel the "juice" that only a gun that was "there" can have.
I have sold off a lot of excess stuff since my kids don't want it and I am mostly settled on my favorites. Last year I met a boy who needed a hunting guide since his Dad did not hunt. I may let him borrow a few. He is just like me when I was his age. A real sho' nuff gun nut.

I guess I have something wrong with me, I keep buying 3 and sale 1. Plus the cost is going up, I guess I'm like a drugie looking for my next fix :D.

Panamajack, That was right kindly of you, especially selling them Colts!!! 32 Berettas? Have a Vertec I use for IPSC matches and it's a great semi, but my true love is S&W revolvers.

I tried giving her the investment speel but women can be harder headed than us men type at times. Kinda like when I told her I HAD to have a HD Road Glide for touring over my Sportster. Really did the honey do thing and BOOCOO amounts of sweet talking. Took me 2 years to crack (I mean convince) her it was a must have. Now that she's got some miles on the back seat and has a stereo she understands.

Sure would like to see some pics of them Colt's you let outta the corral.

Take care,

SG

Heres my NEW 04 Road Glide, courtesy of E-Bay. The best way to travel on a motorcycle! Pics not mine. Have to take a few fresh ones as I added a few goodies to it.

Sorry for changing the subject, I couldn't resist.

My wife and I were out riding our 1999 Goldwing and she said it would be nice to be able to do a coast to coast trip on a bike. Well I told her we could do that, but we needed a bike with navigation system and anti lock brakes. She said OK and with in a month I bought this.

it is so nice when they think it is their idea.

Well I'll add a picture of my ride as well and say that my passions run from Guns, Motorcycle, to Fishing in that order.

The only guns that I feel bad about letting go were my 3906,5906 and a few 15's. My Colt series 80 I traded for a 5943 and my Trooper III was traded towards a 19 and I feel I got the better of the trade. I have bought and traded a lot of guns and have had remorse but that's life
