I have a older SDB that I got second hand. Its well worn, but complete and functional. Sometimes it runs smooth, but after running off 50 or 100 rounds it seems to jam. For some reason the indexing lever is getting hung up at half stroke. I can manually give the lever a little push and it will finish the cycle. So, I tear it down and pull the indexing lever, put it back together and it runs fine for another 50 or 100 rounds before it repeats. For the life of me I cannot tell what it is I am "fixing". Its beginning to be a pain in the ass to continually have to tear it down. BTW, yes, I got a completely new indexing lever assembly from Dillon and replaced the old one. Didn't do it. Anyone else have this problem with the SDB? Any ideas?

The pin that the indexing lever cams on (looks like a bolt with the threads turned off on the end)... is that worn?

Do you mean the Index Bolt (part # 13461)? I just had it out last week and dont remember it being worn. I'll have to remove it and look, but, I dont think it is.

I had at one time 3 Dillon SD-Bs. Through ten or more years and tens of thousands of rds. loaded, everytime I had a glitch, I called the Dillon customer service line. They were always able to talk me through any problem I had. Give them a call while you are sitting right in front of your machine. Explain the problem and they will talk you through it.

Wheelgunner's got it right, although I would suggest that it might be that the 'bent' washer on the back-side of the plastic lever is flattened, or non-existant, therefore loosening the assembly after your subscribed amount of rounds. You go in there and re-tighten and it's fixed until it loosens again. (Repeat as necessary!)
That's my guess.

I had the same problem last night with one I just got second hand. I pulled the shell plate and cleaned out all of the gunk under and around the shell plate. A friend told me to lube with moly powder as it does not attract any residue. Since then I reloaded 300 rounds without a hitch.

B.B.

I have a SDB that had been laying in a cabinet for several years. Could not make it run. For only a few bucks Dillon went through it and it works like a new one. I'm not mechanial and as inexpensive as Dillon rebuilds them I don't need the hassle.

If you can do without it for a bit I'd send it back to Dillon for a rebuild. Call them first for an RA #.

I was having similar problems with my SDB and in just over a week it came back as good or better than new!

Well, I have 3 SDBs now. Never had the problem you are talking about but, like has been said earlier, call Dillon while sitting in front of the machine.

I like to tinker so doing things that way are OK by me.

As a side note: I am waiting on one of them to return from Dillon. I bought that one used too. Sometime during it's previous life, it had the handle snapped off and other atrocities done to it. When I notice that the OAL of my 45ACP bullets was .030" different when I ran 1 bullet through versus a full shell plate, I got to looking. One of the "ears" on the frame had a crack along the top side that when it flexed it didn't allow the ram to go all of the way to the top of the stroke. They won't send out a frame as a replacement part so I had to send it back.
I'll make a new thread when I get it back letting you all know how it went.

That press, as soon as it gets back is going to our oldest son's place. I had them go through it too and set it up like brand new with dies and all for 38spl.

It will get him started reloading. Seeing he has 4 boys he is going to need it!
