So went today to make a deal for a NIB 442 and 60 no dash with Tyler T Grips plus some cash.

He greets me with a great big grin. That grin usually means more money.
"Hey remember that nickel 28-2 picture I showed you?"

"Yep looked gaudy"

He pulls out his phone and shows me a screenshot of a letter from S&W Performance Center with the serial number of the 28-2
N1341

??? Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture?
Much obliged

Per the customers request
Nickel finish
Gold plate hammer and trigger
Full action tuning

Damn

Took a closer look and the photo does not do the nickel finish any justice. If it wasn't factory then it was equal to what Fords would do today. In this case it is factory.

Estate is currently held up and paperwork will eventually come my way

So made the decision and we did some swapping and trading

Traded in my Ruger LCP Max with two spare magazines (he had a lady who wants one before she heads out of town)
My S&W 15-3 2" blue snub that just sat in my safe (he has a retired LE who carried one back in the day so going to a good home)
Plus $500 cash

Got the no dash 60 as my new carry gun since the wife claimed my 36
And an actual old school Performance Center 28-2 with one of the nicest triggers I have ever pulled and the single action you cannot believe
This one is gonna be a shooter for sure

Maybe not the best deal but I'm very happy

UPDATE
Managed to give it another once over and got rid of most of the gold plating that was flaking off the hammer and trigger. Have some feelers out to local smiths to see how much they charge for case hardening them.

And by request I put the original grips back. She's a beauty!

Should be a 1970 gun.

So is it original work or something the Performance Center did much later? I don't see why someone wouldn't just buy a nickel 27-2 in 1970.

In any case, two classic S&Ws.

I didn't see the letter date on the photo

Definitely something the performance center did down the road as they did not start until 1991 or so.
