I purchased a S&W Mod. 18-3 22 Combat Masterpiece yesterday, after a long time search, for a .22 cal. revolver to match my old Mod. 15 .38 Combat Masterpiece. It was purchased in 1952, and I have wanted a .22 version ever since. Now that I have it I want to equip it the same as the .38 version, with TT, TH, white outline sight blade, red inset front sight, etc. I have located the hammer, and trigger, but need the WO blade, and will cut in the red inset front sight. I have worked on, and customised many firearms, but, not S&W innerds, and don't want to send the revolver out to have the parts installed, so, I need to find some reliable instructions of how to assemble/disassemble the revolver. Can anyone advise me on where to find this info.? HELP please.

Kuhnhausen's S&W Revolver: A Shop Manual is essential for your needs.

YouTube is also an excellent resource for videos on assembly and disassembling a S&W revolver.

I agree with Hapworth. The manual is an absolute must. The w/o sight blades are available from S&W. Just under &11.00 with a new screw and nut. Installation is easier with the proper tools but with care, doable without.

Thanks for the information. Relying on my bad memory, I went ahead, and removed the side plate allright, removed the the old Hammer, trigger, Rebound slide & spring, mainspring, and all the parts needed to accomplish replacing the old Hammer & Trigger and transfered the parts in them to the new Hammer. That was quite difficult as I distroyed my 1/16" punch completly driving the pins out of the old hammer & trigger. I am waiting on the wide trigger to arrive, so I can install the parts to it. I tried to remove the bolt from the frame by removing the nut on the thumb piece, but was not able to get it out of the frame. It is rough on the side that the hammer rubs on and needs polishing. I ordered the manual suggested from Brownels, today. They were supposed to have it in stock but I'll have to wait and see. After getting the revolver open it was apparent that the previous owner had replaced the mainspring, but not the Rebound spring, as the remaining spring is one coil shorter, and redish in color. No idea of what brand the new set is. I was not able to find the WO sight blade, screw, and nut, mentioned, at Brownels. Will have to get a new punch, and start over. This project has sort of turned sour.
