I posted a couple months ago about an early Model 29 I found and it came in a display case with the three tools but Doc44 explained to me in a post that it was for a 5" Model 27, not for the gun I bought. Since I do not have a Model 27 with a 5' barrel I want to list the case for sale so someone with one of these guns can complete a package but I need some idea of a value first. Any ideas on a value would be greatly appreciated so I can list it at a fair price. Here is a picture of the case in question. I mentioned that it had a broken hinge but a forum member was nice enough to send me a new hinge which will be included with the case.

Thank you,

Robb

My best guess ....

Xfuzz, I may be wrong, but I am thinking the value could be quite a bit more. rbrbrb6, you need to show us what the exterior of the case looks like too. I always thought the 3.5" and 5" cases were the hardest to find. Obviously, having a broken hinge will affect the value, but if the supplied hinge is the correct type, and it can be installed without hurting the looks of the case, it might not affect value much. The interior of your case LOOKS good to me. I own a 3.5" case that I value at $350+, but it looks really nice. JMO.

Here are pictures of the case, tools and the replacement hinge. It appears that the cleaning rod is a touch too long when the brass brush is attached but I do not know if that is normal. On the hinge picture, the broken hinge is on the right and the replacement hinge and nails is on the left. I am sure there is a technique to changing these out so I would defer that to a member who specializes in work like that if I were the new owner.

Thank you for the help gentlemen. I want to be as fair as possible when I list it for sale.

The 5" presentation case is not often seen for sale; the 4", 6", and 8-3/8" cases are much more common. Yours looks to be in very good condition. Its worth $250 minimum in today's market. Good luck with the sale.

presentation case

an alternative to selling the case is to buy a 5 inch model 27. now wasn't that easy.

You better believe I have thought about buying a 5" Model 27 but I am at the stage in life where I am thinning the herd rather than trying to make it grow. Not that I am opposed to it but I am trying to get down the the dozen or so I shoot.

Thank you gentlemen for the help on the value. I will post it later this evening.

Robb

I watched a new production case for a 29 go for $250 on eBay last month.
That box of yours is worth more than you might think and not no $200 either. Farther north of that for sure.

Pick a number you want that you think is too high. Start there. You can always come down if there is no interest, but you can't go up if you suddenly find you have a dozen people screaming "I'LL TAKE IT!"
