I got offered a trade of a Ruger #1 that has been re-barreled to this caliber. Any knowledge of or experience with the caliber will be greatly appreciated.

I worked with another 22 caliber round in this velocity range. 22BR with a 35 grain Berger at 4400fps. that velocity is very, very, very, hard on barrel life. The data I got from Accurate Reloading said I would get 1/2 groups, and that was all I could get. I have 22BR loads that are 50grain at 4100 and get 1/4 or better. so why burn a barrel for so-so accuracy!

I thought the Cheetah (or CHeetah) a 243 Win necked to 22. That is way overbore. But if you can get it to shoot, it should be a laser beam on ground hogs!

Accurate barrel life is measured under 1,000 rounds in most barrels. This is not a cartridge for the casual handloader. The 22 CHeetah can be very accurate for long range varmint hunting in no to low wind conditions. The Ruger No. 1 platform does not lend itself to being a super accurate long range rifle. With a well worn barrel you very well could wind up shooting "patterns" and not "groups". The resale value of this rifle/cartridge combination is nil.......

IMHO, it is a big ............ pass...........

I agree with Cholla.
Buy yourself a nice bolt action in .220 swift to scratch
the itch.
I shot a Remington VSSF in .220 swift on P-dogs in South
Dakota for years. But you gotta be careful and not get carried
away on a hot day of shooting.

I'd want to shoot it, I've owned 3 or 4 Ruger #1 Rifles. They have great nostalgia and looks, but i was never fond of the money groups I got with them, 25 or 50 cent size seemed good for them...

And I don't often shoot others reloads, I gotta know them well.

Is it a re-barrel or a re-chamber?

Someone mentioned buying a 220 Swift, I had 2 when younger and liked them. I also had a few 22-250's that I really liked. I'm not sure how the resale is for these 2 are if you don't like them but has to be better than an unknown caliber in a platform that only a few like.

Wildcats are hard to sell chambered in production rifles. The only thing
worse is trying to get your investment back out of a custom built rifle for
a wildcat. The varmit class WCs are the worst, everyone thinks the worst,
barrel burn out. I've seen a lot of them go for $200-$300. Excellent buy
for a rebarrel job or rebore.
