Yes you need a model 10.
The model 10, known as the M&P prior to the numbering system
has been a mainstay in the S&W catalog ever since 1899. It has
been in continuous production longer than any other handgun.
(The Peacemaker came from Colt in 1873, but had a long time-
out from production.)
The revolver has been used by our military in WWII, Korea, and
Viet Nam. It has been used by hundreds of law enforcement
outfits.
For many years the FBI issued S&W Model 10s and Colts OPs.
The Heiser FBI holster, like mine shown below left, was issued
along with the gun. Crump also provided some FBI holsters.
2nd from left is an unusual model with a "trigger protector".
3rd from left is a standard Crump FBI holster.
Authorized, but not issued, and very popular with agents was
the Myres #614 Tom Threepersons, shown 4th from left.
NYPD issued the model 10 with 4" bull barrel. Jim Cirillo carried
his M&P 4" bull barrel on duty with the Stakeout Unit, where it
is told that he "put down" 19 armed thugs. Two former NYPD
cops, who shot with Jim at the range, told me the Bucheimer Patrolman
rig, shown below 5th from left, is very much like what Jim used
to carry his model 10.
