Been getting a lot of unwanted calls so checked to see if my number was registered on the list.

Check here https://www.donotcall.gov/confirm/conf.aspx

Says I have been on the list since August 05 2005

Guess these callers don't care.

Told one if they called again going to hunt them down cut out their tongue and feed it to my wolf pup.

My PC has a modem so I created a vb.net program in my PC that Blocks these *** holes. Unfortunately not everyone has the know how to do this.

Their numbers seem to remain the same for a while so at least with an iPhone you can block them right in the phone. That's worked for me.

Or if you want to have some fun... Search Tom Mabe Carpet Cleaner.

I am on a land line so my program can be customized to block user name, numbers ect.....I bet an iPhone programmer could do that also.

My guess is that some enterprising bureaucrat sells the do not call list to select potential callers. That way when they call numbers they don't have to worry about competition from those that don't buy the list.

Well, you will continue to get calls from political parties, as they legislated themselves to be exempt from the 'do not call' restrictions! Just figures, doesn't it...

Do Not Call List doesn't apply to any company that you have done business with in the past. It also doesn't apply to any "affiliate" of those companies. An affiliate could be just some one they sold their mailing list to. Non profit organizations are also exempt.

In the big scheme of things Do Not Call is pretty useless. Just another waste of our tax dollars.

A number of the marketing calls come from offshore phone rooms who pay no attention to the list.

I get far fewer nuisance calls since I've been on the list, but i'm getting braced for being swamped with political calls for the next sixteen months or so.

I miss the old days....the single party line...two soup cans, a waxed string. Never did get the unwanted calls..Even then it was easy to hang up, just let the string go slack.:D

And here it is 2015, and they call this progress.:(

Seriously,, I've very tempted to just get rid of the home phone altogether and just tell those I want to, to call the police or sheriff if it's a emergency. They'll come to the door and let me know what the emergency is.

In my experience, the only ones who egregiously ignore the DNC Registry are call centers located outside of the U.S. They use dirty tricks like spoofed numbers over VOIP to fool you into thinking the call originated here in America. The Registry isn't of any use in this case because it's virtually impossible to prosecute someone in a foreign country for violating U.S. Federal law. These criminals will also, in many cases, use computerized "wardialers" to randomly call any series of phone numbers in the hopes of getting someone who'll pick up; in other words, they're cold-calling.

Your best defense against these guys is to use Caller ID and an answering machine/VM and never, ever pick up if it's a number you don't recognize. If you're able to block that number, it'll also go a long way toward slamming the door in their faces.

Not to burst any bubbles, but that won't work anymore. They have technology that spoofs phone numbers! I get calls where the Caller ID lists (wait for it)........................... MY OWN PHONE NUMBER!

Yep, I'm calling myself on my own phone so I can sell myself some un-needed service, or claim that the IRS is coming to my door to collect, or that my relative was in a life-threatening accident and they need $$$ immediately, or...

The whole thing's a sham. I'm not aware of any successful prosecution of a company that violated the DNC list.

Best thing to do is just ignore all calls. Keep a HAM radio nearby and give one to each of your kids & family members. :D

Never been bothered by it. Let them call if they want. I either don't pick up if the phone is not close by or if it is close I'll pick up and hang up immediately.

A stadium horn can be a fun thing. Or an Acme Thunderer coach's whistle.

Funny you mention that. I taped the noise of an Artillery barrage asused in some episode of COMBAT--and taped it as loud as possible. It worke. However,on cellphones, ive nothing and usually give them two chances to takeme off their list. If they dont, next time i use minor insults in another language. That usually keeps them from calling again.:D

My personal favorite is the "We're from Microsoft and we heard you have a dirty computer." scam. ;)

Can't say I've ever seen my own phone number spoofed, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
