I'm glad to see you young folks carrying revolvers too!! (OK, I'm sort of kidding here, I'm only 70, so not all that senior to you)... BTW I like that holster, first one I've ever seen.

With an open mind, go back to your post about the shooting range outing with your father. Read your post, as a non informed person would, and see if it does not sound like you judged your Father pretty harshly. I am older than the average member on this forum being of the 1931 vintage, and bought my first .22 rifle and ammo. for it at age six, by myself with money earned by me. I bought my first defense revolver, a Mod.15 in 1953. My take on this whole subject, boils down to this, Pick what flops your mop in a handgun, that fits the occasion, and carry it with you when, and where you go! Over the years, I'v accumulated a choice of handguns, to fit about any occasion, and vary what I carry, to fit the occasion. When Nitty comes to Gritty, any kind of weapon beats covering your eyes, and waiting for "Uncle Sugar" to protect you! Nuff Said, It sure is fun to stir up the discussions, and set back and enjoy them.

Gee! I'm 82! Somehow do not feel that age. Retired 27 years ago , after 35 years as Federal Officer, U.S.Border Patrol and Customs Service,and enjoying it. During most of my service carried .38 Special Colt and .357 S&W. Early on carried a .38 Chief Special (Air Weight) off duty. But it was too light. My wife handled it better than I did. I used to cut my thumb on the cylinder release when it fired.

During my time in the Marine Corps carried a 1911 as a backup and M-1 Garand. My weapon of choice for the past 3 years is the Shield MP .40 SW. Sorry to tell you I didn't choose the 'Wheel gun' this time around. I like the concealment factor and the extra round capacity. Also have a .380 Llama 1911 version I acquired 60 years ago. Still in excellent condition. Hope you make it to be one of us 'old codgers'.

I see the vast majority of the younger crowd gravitate towards pistols these days and why not, right? After all they have to offer. Capacity, caliber and they just look cool. I also see so many of these folks spending uber amounts of money for these modern marvels and none in the training and proper use. At the same time, the so called mature lot are spending their money on wheel guns, mostly vintage from S&W ( because they don't have the Lock hole) Rugers like the GP100 & SP101 are also holding their own in sales.

Personally, I've owned more pistols over my lifetime than I care to mention, only a few that I EDC'd. The last S&W I carried was the 4516 before transistioning into Glocks for work. Both fine pistols. These days, I privately carry a wheel gun. I find it carrys well, doesn't move and fits my frame comfortably. If I need more than the 5 rounds of 357 that it provides so well, than hell, I'm out past by bed time or just where the good lord didn't intend for me to be. Great thread here, I've enjoyed the responses.

At 64, going on 65 next month, I got back in to shooting. First purchase was a S&W 686 SSR. Went to the LGS. Where are all the revolvers? Selection was pretty slim. Haven't decided on what I'll use for EDC. What I remember from my first go round; with my wheel guns you pulled the trigger and it went boom. No exception. With my semi's (Gold Cup and HiPower) I would get FTF's with reloads, not with the factory ammo though. That said I have a Dan Wesson .45 acp on it's way. But its made out of steel, not recycled Tupperware.

Well, I dont EDC a wheel gun these days, though I do carry one regularly, but I used to EDC an SP101 when I was even younger than I am now. I'm 29. Carried the SP101 when I was 22.

The only reason I'm not EDC'ing a j frame is because I stumbled into a SIG P238 for like $100 less than a used j frame would have cost me.

i been carrying a Glock 30 45 caliber, for awhile now. In early November i moved money soas to buy another handgun depending depending on who won the election, before any taxes
get added to prices. Then after the election i canceled my planned gun purchase. But today while picking up some magazine holsters for my belt, i spotted a Smith & Wesson 586-1. After
haggling over the price I could not resist it. I got it for $575
and its blue steel, down from around $670 marked. It has no
M on it, so made after 1986, SN AVB****. Did I pay too much?
And it seems to be in great condition to me, a six shot revolver.

I'm 66. My nice weather (thank you New Mexico) carry is a Commander sized 1911.
But an old guy like me really notices the seasonal change and it's getting to be coat weather.
Which is great since my 3.5" Model 27 is easier to hide under a coat.

it seems like most folks rely on spray guns. 17 rounds n extra mags.
they spend their time worrying about the most effective loads.
i really think this is nothing but laziness.
they upgrade gear n fire power but seldom practice.
i got my first handgun 16 months ago n i shoot 200-300 rounds every week.
i have upgraded to a model 15 shooting midrange wadcutters.
i can do more with 6
rounds than they can do with 60.
a work ethic is more important than equipment.

Many of us can't afford to spend several hundred dollars a month plinking.

There is a lot of very CREDIBLE people on here with many years of experience and if the old guys on here say its smart to carry revolvers than I would consider that very good CREDIBLE advise. With that being said there is many different situations that call for different carry options. For example auto pistols are awesome! But it would take to long to explain all of the different situations that would warrant what someone would carry.

I seen this thread and had to reply, I'm 28 and I carry my revolvers more often than a auto. I usually switch between a nickel model 36 or a nickel model 10-8 heavy barrel. Sometimes I carry my 4 inch model 19, but very rarely I'll carry my Beretta 92fs. I don't know I like the old smiths better, I shoot them better and they seem lighter, easier to carry than the Beretta.

I'm 47, I carry an M&P45 every day I work, off-duty it's a 642, sometimes my 686+ 2", and 65-3 depending on the weather. I live in NC so I don't get a lot of really cold weather. I have an M&P Shield 9MM and a Glock 19 I throw in the mix.

Tiger Woods don't play every hole with a 3 iron.....lol

Then, there are the rare days when I'll carry two autos and two revolvers.
Normally, a full sized auto + a compact or subcompact auto + a Charter Bulldog 44 (or a K frame sized .38 or .357) + a J frame .38 or .32.
The fastest reload is to draw and fire another gun. The good ole Jim Cirillo/New York reload.
Having a backup to your backup is good insurance in an unsafe world.
One is none. Two is one. Three is two. Four is three, ya see?
Just like, sometimes I drive a car/truck and sometimes I ride a motorcycle. (I always wear safety gear when riding)
And, sometimes I do both.
It just depends. How bad of a neighborhood am I being required to go to?
Am I wearing my level IIIA vest under my shirt?
What time of day or night am I required to go?

Bear in mind, I've spent my entire life avoiding bad areas/situations. It works most of the time.

About being old, I'm 46. Not young. Not old.
But, that's all relative.

I'm old enough to not look for trouble.
I'm old enough to realize I'm not immortal.
I'm old enough to know just how fragile my human body and life can be.
Still young enough to ride and to shoot my favorite guns.

I don't know about younger or older preferences and I certainly don't chose my EDC based on anyone's opinion other than my own and that my fellow forum members is simply based on exactly what sort of day I expect to have at work, integrating with the public, traffic, weather, etc.

So..........some days my EDC should be the M1 Garand, however it has been very tough to find an IWB holster, other days it has to be the Stevens 12 ga S x S, but those bandoliers of OO Buck slung over the shoulder seem to put off some of the office staff during meetings so most days I just trudge along in life with the 637 in an Uncle Mikes cheapo under the jacket.

Way back.....the original OP said no sense of humor left in old foggies.......guess he was right.

Choose your EDC carefully and if you do run across a holster for my M1, please post a pic.

My Friend, if you live long enough, you, as surely as God made little green apples, will get "that bad". Your opinion of us Old Folks, and their not being able to keep up with our society's frantic pace, shows the overall disrespect shown by our younger generation, for the generation that over pampered and never give any duties, or responsibilities to those little darlings. assuring that they would never have to work for their living as their parents had to do. Then suddenly at age thirty or forty, a few of the little darlings finally get out into the big old Bad world, with a lot of help from those pampering parents, and show their gratitude, and respect, by taking notice of how their worn out providers have slowed down, and are holding up lines of very appreciative young folks from the pampered Generation. The real sad part of this is that none of you pampered generation can see what I'm talking about, and all the pampering went down the drain, along with respect. All for nothing!

I like to have more than one wrench in my toolbox and I tend to mix and match revolvers and autos myself depending on the situation. These days I am carrying my Shostle Engraved nickel 29-2 as a belt gun on duty and a Kahr PM9 as a backup...and an NAA .22 mag in a pocket holster with my knife.

This thread reminds me of a time about 15 years ago when I was in my early 20`s and a guy I worked with who was about my age came to the office off duty and unarmed (shame on him). He decided he was going to go along to assist another deputy on something and wanted to borrow a gun. Naturally I had a spare in the car but when I handed him a model 28 Highway Patrolman and a couple speedloaders he grimaced and said with a straight face "No, I can`t carry no revolver..." That ranks right up there with one of the dumbest things I`ve ever heard to this day. (he finally decided that a sixgun was better than a nogun and took the 357)
